About the restaurant 7 Portes

"Cafè de les 7 Portes was inaugurated in 1836. More than 175 years of continuous improvement in good work of this classic of Catalan dining of Barcelona, and in particular, of the Barceloneta neighborhood.

At 7 Portes will enjoy of the best Catalan cuisine every day of the year, from 1pm until 1am, without interruption, intimately or in any of its rooms for meetings, and taste the best wines and cavas from Spain that are stored in the large underground cellar.

Located at the Pòrtics d'en Xifré, a building of national architectural interest, it has been a privileged witness and participant of historical events: It was the first building in the city with running water and its architecture was featured in the first photograph taken in Spain."

We had a horrible time. They moved us twice to get away from the loudest and most continuous screaming baby we have ever encountered. Why not move the family with the baby? The food was typical Catalan of average quality. It was fairly empty even though we could only get a 6pm reservation (?). I would not go back. No big deal at all.

It was the best paella I have ever had. Strongly recommend!

But they were slow in processing order and unordered food was served which we rejected.

Again, I do not hesitate to recommend this place to visit and I hope to visit there again when in Barcelona.

we arrived 5 minutes before our reservation and at the front door the was a guy that told us to go inside. when we went in, there was no one welcoming as and we waited without knowing to who or what. after gew minutes there was a guy that came to the front desk and gave a table for a couple that came after us without even bother who was in line.
under the table i felt my leg toching somthing, i moved the table cover and i noticed a big dry brad that no one ecer cleaned.
when we got the bill they charge us for bottle of wine even though i ordered juat a cup. also there was a strange cost for about 5 ero for the brad that we didnt order or eat at all, the waiter told me that it is for the service throw the brad ,meaning you have to pay for service even if you dont want..
they took the brad and asked for desert when my wife was still eating.

We first ate at 7 Portes in 2014, and it was described to us as a Barcelona institution. We're from NYC, so we can appreciate what that means. It isn't always the most inventive dishes, but the menu is consistent and traditional, the staff efficient, and the ambience 100% perfect. We returned in April 2017 for a family reunion and to celebrate my sister's birthday. From steak to paella and all nibbles in between, we were not left disappointed; full in our bellies and a bit lighter in our wallets. On the receipt, it read that Che Guevara once dined at our table. How many posh restaurants with Michelin stars can tout that claim to fame!

We were not made to feel comfortable, there was minimal communication with server other than ordering by pointing. Food was at best average, and certainly not up to to ratings that they have received. You can find better food, service, and atmosphere elsewhere.
