About the restaurant Addis Ababa

Little Ethiopia in Amsterdam

Restaurant Addis Ababa puts Ethiopia on the map of Amsterdam. This restaurant is named after the capital of Ethiopia and in style with the culinary traditions. Eating is a social activity. In this African country, eating with the right hand of injera is a habit. Injera looks like a large pancake, which you tear off a piece. Then you grab with this piece of injera vegetables, fish or meat. Mmm, delicious!

Eating here is like being welcomed into the home of our Ethiopian friends. After eight years of living in Addis Ababa, I crave the flavoursome food, the gorgeous coffee ceremony aromas, and the smiles, and last night it didn’t disappoint. I first enjoyed eating here in 2005 and will return every time I visit Amsterdam. Thank you!

Everything was fantastic. The food was delicious and the owners were wonderful and especially accommodating to the children in our group. We have been here before and will definitely go again. The menu is a little confusing for ordering with a large group but otherwise no complaints.

I had diner with a friend at this place yesterday evening. There are a couple of Ethiopian places in Amsterdam, but with the best ratings and checking with friends, we decided to go here. Upon arrival they had a lovely cosy terrace outside and a table was ready for us. The lovely lady served us so nicely and gentle. The table next to us had a great Djerba full of food allready so we decided to order the vegetarian version. Wow!!! Sooo nice! We love to share and take it easy, and they let you do that. Great option for vegans and veggie by the way. Ethiopian coffee as dessert served in the traditional way, made the evening perfect! On top of that price/quality is amazing. So even on a low budget a greatp place to go!

The food was very good. The two staff, a man and woman were wonderful and very sweet. The restaurant is small and filled very quickly so I am very glad that they took a reservation. Overall a wonderful experience!!!

This was my first Ethiopian restaurant experience ever. Though I had no reference point to compare the food with, the decor, the dishes, and the presentation of the food more than made up for it - It was the most authentic feeling I could have imagined of the cuisine. The portions were quite enough! I went for a vegetarian platter which was a combination of all the vegetarian dishes available. All the portions we ordered (3, which was more than sufficient for 4 of us at the table) came in a HUGE plate that was partitioned into 3 dishes with salad-made borders - excellent presentation indeed!

Oh, and yeah, to get the actual feeling of being in Addis Ababa, it is highly recommended that you eat with your hands! ;-)

The food is good here but I ve had better.
Minchet Abish was great but the meat wasnt minced enough and I didnt enjoy the chunky texture of the dish at all.
Doro wat and other accompaniments of lentil, salad, veggies, ingeera were great.
My friend had one of the ethipoian beers served in a coconut shell and he loved it - the beer and the shell both! :)
The service was great and friendly and the ambience is basic.
This may not be a big deal to many but I like a little more cleanliness - dont get me wrong - the restaurant is clean n all but the cushion on my chair had stains and marks and trust me, I didnt enjoy sitting on it.

We came here with a Groupon and we were very pleased. Injera was delicious and generous and it can be a lot of fun when dining with a group of friends. Service was attentive and friendly. The beer selection was good. The deco was gezellig, very cozy and just simple. We will definitely come back.
