The food was excellent. I loved the place and the people were very friendly, always with a smile. We waited long to be served, it was the only inconvenient. But after receiving the food we forgot about it. Overall, good experience.

We always look forward to our dinners at Al Bacaro. They are always flavourful and freshly made. Last night we had yet another very satisfactory dinner. The rich pasta with truffles was particularly memorable.

The dishes consist mainly of regional specialties which one doesn't often find in other Italian restaurants. Probably due to tourists' requests, ordinary dishes like lasagna, melanzane parmigiana, etc have, however, crept into the menu. A pity that this authentic Italian restaurant isn't as popular as it should be.

Nice atmosphere but the food was cold and not so good. The personnel was not speaking neither good English nor Dutch. I would not advise.

Eating at Al Bacaro has always been pleasant and the food is usually excellent/zeer goed. Our experience last night would have been the same if not for the fact that we had to follow up service a few times last night, despite it being a relatively quiet evening. Furthermore, the Pasta Amatriciana was most disappointing. One of us had ordered it specifically because Eur 2 of the price was supposed to be donated to the victims of the recent earthquake in Amatrice. What was served was a bland pasta without any guanciale and tomato sauce. When we asked the waitress about this when we got the bill, the waitress "apologised" and said that she should have explained that they used the "ancient recipe" which doesn't include these ingredients. We didn't want to spoil an otherwise pleasant evening so we didn't raise a fuss.

Food was very nice, also the service very friendly and prompt, even when the place was quite full. We were in the last table at the end of the place, where you could see the kitchen interior and a door to a back patio. The place could use some maintenance (spiderwebs in the corners, a door-curtain that has probably never been washed and corners that could use a layer of paint). Also the kitchen could be a bit more well kept, special if it can be seen by the guests (check all the items you have on that shelf by the window to the patio.. not the most appealing to the eye). All said, we still had a very nice evening and enjoyed the food and service.

Food was simply amazing, high quality fresh ingredients directly from Italy . Friendly staff, with attention to customers way higher than average dutch standards.
Definitely a pleasant experience, we'll be back again.

We were asked to try this Italian restaurant by some Italian friends. This is a small and unassuming place with a very small menu but delicious meat dishes. The lamb main course was perfect. A good location for a mid-priced great dinner when you do not want to cook at home or order some horrible Italian takeaway/delivery.

WOW. Super duper!
The best rack of lamb I had in my life!
I'm Italian so I'm picky about Italian food, but I strongly recommend this place, the food is deliciously fantastic.
The staff is extremely kind and friendly.

What a beautiful evening we have spent at Al Bacaro.
We were seated (at our request), near the kitchen where we have enjoyed the team work and friendship between the owner and the chef. Amazing.

It is a non pretencious restaurant, warm and it was exactly what we were looking for that night.

The food was delicious and truly enjoyable and the prices reasonable.

We were offered a Limoncello at the end of the evening.

Go back? Absolutely !

Lovely restaurant, friendly staff and tasty Italian food.

We ate at Al Bacaro on a Friday night, was almost booked that night so I suggest to make a reservation before.
Me and my girlfriend had the appetizer of the house and then fish for her and lamb for me.

We didn't choose any pasta dish but they look very inviting, we'll try them next time!
Totally worth it!

Grazie Bacarò you'll see as soon enough!!!

Wonderful! Eccezionale! If you're looking for a pasta and pizza place, don't come here. This is the genuine article (and I should know, having lived in Italy for 23 years) where the food sings to your heart and palate. I was there yesterday with my partner and seven guests from abroad to celebrate my partner's birthday. I had previously arranged the whole menu from start to finish with Illiano and everything was superb, as requested. I warmly recommend this osteria to whoever regards themselves as connoisseurs of regional Italian delicacies. Viva Al Bacaro!!

We went to Al Bacaro with the three of us to this, for me , new restaurant. When we entered it was very empty except for some Italian guests. The service was very friendly and helpful. Already for this experience , worth going back. The menu looked interesting with locally sourced Dutch ingredients for Italian food. Clearly not a restaurant to go to to have a pizza. The decor is very Spartan. Although a nice gesture was that every table had a small vase with fresh flowers. The food was OK but not very special that evening. Maybe at other nights , when it is a lot busier, the cooks are a bit more inspired to perform. It is a place where I would go back to though.

This place, like many in Amsterdam, has very good Italian food. But, what makes this place amazing is the service you will get. In a very simple decor, you will be greated and treated as part of the family! Not only that the owner learns how to communicate in your language (and, I tested that with Balkan set of languages), but you get the true and best recommendations about food and wine and a fantastic treatment. I was in al Bacaro months ago, yet the guy remembered me today, my favourite food and my sense of humor. This kind of service is a breath of fresh air in the Netherlands! Oh, and did I mention that the food is great! I'm going back for sure! Grazie mille!

This was my fourth visit to Al Bacaro (my third this year). Brought along three girl friends and we had a fantastic lunch there yesterday. It was a quiet afternoon with hardly any other diners, which is a pity considering how the food here has been consistently good. Some items on the menu were not available or could not be eaten by one of us (diabetic and lactose-intolerant) but the patron made sure to offer us other acceptable alternatives. Everything was delicious - sweet-sour fresh sardines; mixed antipasti of various cold hams and sausages, three kinds of cheese, steamed chicory on fava bean puree, bresaola with rucola and Parmesan cheese; veal with chanterelle mushrooms; pasta with clams and crayfish; pasta with lemon and walnuts; pan-fried fish; tiramisu; ricotta with caramelized hazelnuts.

4th time I go and I have never been disappointed. Excellent choice and real Italian food made by an Italian chef. Excellent quality, taste and presentation. Very good wine card. Excellent balance quality/price. Nice service from the waiters. I would recommend it anytime.
