For me Annie's is one of the best restaurants in Leiden. The food is great and reasonably priced and they have options for everyone (I am vegetarian and my partner is gluten free whilst a lot of my family love dishes with lots of meat so it can be difficult to find somewhere where we can all eat). Even though it is quite a big restaurant the service is always very quick which is great and the staff are always very accommodating and friendly. The inside of the restaurant is cosy and well decorated. All in all, you couldn't really ask for more.

The service was good, very friendly and we didn't have to wait too long for our meals.
There was something for everyone vegetarian, pescetarian and meat eaters.
To sit inside reminded me of a hobbit hole it was cute and cozy, only a little bit too dark for me.
Next time in summer I'd like to sit outside on the water.

My date and I stumbled upon Annie's one Saturday evening after being turned away from a nearby restaurant because we didn't have reservations. We looked at the menu board outside and saw that they had vegetarian and non-vegetarian items, so we headed down the stairs to give it a try. The restaurant was rather full when we entered, but we were able to find a table. I ordered the Mexican fajitas and my date ordered the Italian "pappardelle funghi" or mushroom pappardelle. The food was served promptly, and to my great delight, my dish was quite tasty--full of flavor with a bit of sweetness in the sauce. I quickly remarked to my date that it was the best food I had eaten in the Netherlands since moving here in late 2012. My date noted that the pappardelle funghi was good, too. The food portions were reasonable for the price we paid. I thought the service was satisfactory, but my date felt that it was hard to get the server's attention. I was more concerned with the food than the decor, but entering the restaurant kind of feels like going down into a cave, which I thought was an interesting experience. The music that was playing (Latin jazz, salsa, samba, etc.) was great, too.
