About the restaurant Au Bascou

"BASQUE BISTRO - at the center of Marais, behind a discreet front, chef Bertrand Guéneron, former second of Alain Senderens, presents you a kitchen full of flavors, an invitation to travel over the entire Atlantic coast, from the Basque country to Britain.

A BEAUTIFUL PLACE - in this Basque hostel, enhanced with warm colors and hanging chilies, the bell continues to announce the arrival of the dishes. Treat yourself to sensual and delicious cuisine, controlled perfectly with an excellent quality-price ratio.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - Going to Au Bascou means playing it safe... Hard to go wrong when the restaurant is mentioned and recommended in the most prestigious gastronomic guides..."

Hello Americans! This is where to go for authentic French food and ambience. I have been here about 25 times since I happened upon it in 2000. I eat here once or twice every time I visit Paris. I have never had a bad meal here and have had many that were memorable. The decor is funky, the service is plain and friendly, but the food is superb! Try axoa de veau (veal stew). You won't ever taste better. This is an old style French restaurant, without glitz but with consistently marvellous food. They don't have specials, they just have the same wonderful and extensive menu every day (closed weekends - they lead a real life!).

We love this place. Always the first restaurant we book when we know we are you going to Paris. Great game birds and hare. Lievre a la Rotale is a specialty that is very hard to find. The Chef has worked in si.e of the greatest restaurants and now has one of his known.

The food is sublime or as close to sublime as comfort food can get. The service is warm and attentive. The place has charm but it is shabby charm. With more light and a modest upgrade in decor, I wouldn't be able to get a reservation. This is one of my favorite spots in Paris.

We heard good reviews about this restaurant and decided to try it with our French friend. It did not disappoint. Everyone enjoyed the food, the service was good and the fromage, "Ardi Gasna", a brebis cheese from the region, was wonderful. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the blackboard special, ris de veau and the ravioli with celery and truffles were truly divine!! I was waiting for my french friend to lick his plate!!
It is a pity that we did not have room for dessert. The mille-feuille looked incredible and popular.

Au Bascou is one of the great culinary adnentures of the world. I discovered it 15 years ago while wandering the. neighbofrhood. since t hen i have never failed to return during every annual and sometimes more frequent visits to Paris. Go on acold night and try the axoa de veau (Basque veal stew). You,ll never taste a richer heartier dish. Trust me, this is a true culinary delight.

One of our favorite places in Paris has been discovered by others and is now very popular. And for good reason since the excellent Basque cuisine is almost incomparable in Paris. Always a good meal here and for a reasonable price in a pleasant bistro atmosphere. We will return again and again.
