Fantastic cuisine and service!
After a week of amazing traditional Umbrian cuisine, reviews of Avverso let me know we were in for a treat. The room is bright, clean, and modern. An impressive list of French and Italian wines is available, along with a creative bar selection. We went with the tasting “Controverso”. Other tastings with known dishes were available, but we prefer to be surprised. There was plenty of food. Some small appetizers arrived, and antipasti, primi, secondi, and a dessert followed. There were traditional things like tortelli in brodo and grilled duck breast. There were twists on traditional dishes: the roast pork starter came with foie gras, grain mustard and apple pie, and the chocolate tortino (lava cake) was scented with orange. And then there were creative surprises, like the paccheri pasta nibble. A single fried noodle stuffed with ricotta! (Paccheri were sometimes used to smuggle garlic into German-speaking lands, I thought it was fun for it to be used again as a transport vessel.) The meal was great, the pacing was perfect, and the staff are a bunch of knowledgeable professionals. Our meal was delicious and substantial, but I did not feel overly full. In my opinion it is a good value at €40. I was happy that so many ingredients were sourced locally, or at least regionally. At the same time, it was a relief not to have truffles, porcini, and wild boar ragù yet again. I love them, but they were on the menu all over Umbria. I went to Avverso to do something different, and I left without disappointment.
This is a very modern looking restaurant with a modern open kitchen. They have a number of set menu's that offer something for everyone. We had one normal menu and one veggie menu. The normal menu was really good and as a meat eater I was blown away by the veggie menu (we shared all dishes). The amuses beforehand and little nibbles afterward make it very good value for money. In short one of the better food experiences we had during all of our Italy trips.
An excellent find . The food was imaginative and plentiful with three extra courses. A pleasant space and remarkable value for money. No negatives.
We found excellent reviews on TripAdvisor and oh my, this is without any doubt one of the best restaurants ever. Service is perfect, we felt spoiled and the food was just .... waw. Please go and marvel!!
We tried two of the tasting menus, and they were both excellent. We enjoyed the small plates of interesting foods.
