9.5/10It deserves the Michelin star. Excellent combinations, sauces, wines and meats. Awesome wine list too. Expensive but worth it.

8/10We were there as part of my wife’s 65th birthday celebration weekend. My wife and I were slightly underwhelmed with Benares, we had the three course set menu. The food was well presented and tasty, although sparse, which is probably expected in this class of restaurant. The staff were attentive but we did feel a little rushed. The decoration of the room was quite plain and had little ambiance. I do wonder if we had the al a crate or tasting menu it would be better, as you would be paying premium.

7.5/10Starters were excellent; mains and dessert very good. Decor and ambience was a little dated.

9/10Excellent food. Service was confusing with so many different people waiting on the table - didn’t know who was our waiter, but everyone was helpful and responsive. Surprising to see people very underdressed.

6.5/10Went for lunch tasting menu. Food was generally ok, but lacked the creativity and explosion of tastes one would expect from a typical 1-Michelin star restaurant. Service was attentive. All-in-all I can’t say it was a bad experience by any means, but I would not go back either.

10/10The food was good, service was very good, and even a cheap wine was really good. Will go again

7.5/10welcome excellent ambience nothing special. Indian staff were mumblers, slow, rude and fat (as a doctor I would recommend that they take care of themselves, they are genetically at risk of diabetes and heart disease and their paunches meant they were already on the road to perdition). The Pakistani server and the Argentininian order taker Luciana were lovely

10/10The food was amazing and the serving staff were excellent. The problem was they couldn't find our reservation which was made via the Fork - which I confirmed by phone 1 week prior to the booking. There seems to be some diconnect between the App and the restaurant reservation system.

6.5/10I have eaten at Benares twice before and the food was superb. On this occasion, I was a left disappointed. We booked the early set menu - 2 courses and a champagne cocktail, which was excellent value at £32pp. The sweet and sour scallop starter was tasty but tiny, but my main - butter chicken, exchanged for the masala vegetables with bread roll, was disappointing and I have had much better versions of this dish elsewhere. The roll also became very hard quickly and I think it had been microwaved, although this was denied by the serving staff member and I was not offered an alternative nan or bread product. The rice portion was very small, despite being recommend it would be enough for two. We felt somewhat rushed at the end of the evening but were offered accommodation in the bar area. The restaurant did provide a 'Happy Birthday' dessert for my friend though, which was much appreciated. The champagne cocktail was probably the best part of the special deal. I would recommend ordering a la carte for the better quality food experience.

10/10A very enjoyable lunch experience. All the staff were friendly and prepared to spend time at the table explaining food and drink. The sommelier was especially helpful and the wine matches were superb. Three courses and a cocktail £38 - excellent.

9.5/10There was a lovely atmosphere, and the food was excellent, really unusual. We were on the special offer £38 for three courses plus champagne cocktail, which was very good value. This offer was restricted to before 6.30, but because a glitch in their system meant that I booked it for 7.30. Benares were fine about this. The service was perfect - attentive but not fussy. I would recommend this restaurant and The Fork as a good way of booking.
