We wanted to try some actual Dutch food and found this place on our lonely planet guide. Unfortunately they didn't receive our reservation via TheFork, but they were kind enough to let us in by sharing a table with other two (extremely kind!) tourists who were already there. Great atmosphere, good food, everything was as warm as we were expecting it to be.

It was a nice setting, but the host was not very welcoming and turned other customers away whilst we were there.

When we want an authentic Dutch meal (i.e., stamppot) this is our go to spot. Portions are good. Food taste is excellent. Prices are reasonable. Cheeky decor (a giant bronze part of a mans anatomy sits right on the counter---didn't realize it was in our photo until I turned around and saw it), so if you have small kids you might want to be aware of this. Deserts are very good too. We never feel rushed in this restaurant. We brought three new people here who also enjoyed their food selections too.

We had booked for 13 people and the restaurant imposed us the menu as we were considered as a group. This was not mentioned upfront.
Quality of the food was very low with a high waiting time. Regarding the wine there is only 1 wine available and it is a disgusting one, sorry to say but miserable.
I had 12 friends over to discover Amsterdam and the Dutch cuisine - I guess it reflects it.

TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE I should have paid attention to the other horrible reviews! I asked for a glass of tap water -- waiter said we do not provide it. Well for almost 3 euros, I could have bought a bottle. Ordered the 3 plate sampler which arrived much later than a table of 4 who ordered the same dish after I placed my order. What was served was not worth the 18 euros -- 3 very small frying pans no wider than a small palm width, one with a piece of beef smaller than my thumb, another with 3 small slices of sausage and the third of overcooked small pieces of bacon. Beneath the pitifully small amount of meat were mashed potatoes mixed with saurkraut and the third had chopped up kale. And to add a bigger insult to injury, this sham of a restaurant DID NOT TAKE CREDIT CARDS!!! I travel to Europe every fall for 3 months and this is the worst meal I have had in Europe in 9 years. Run, do not walk past this restaurant.

Might have been the party weekend, but the staff was quite inattentive, though quite pleasant when they do come around. 15 minutes waiting for a drink and another 40 minutes for the food is inexcusable. Food was ok (I guess medium rare means raw for steak).

Service was chirpy but the food was like 'The Stockpot' circa 1990 - filling but neither exciting nor interesting. However the signature dish when the meatball was replaced with the sausage caused a wry smile from the grandmere on the neighbouring table. Alas, it was only after the other three in my group were served that I was alerted to the missing meatball. After we arrived many other Lonely Planet readers joined us. I hope they were happier.

We had a great time! Very much a 'local' spot with so much character. The Stampott was really good as was the beef stew. A really lovely end to a very long day in wonderful Amsterdam.
