Excellent
Besides the unbelievable setting and atmosphere on the terrace amidst massive olive trees, the new focus on each course being influenced by a different Portuguese region with local sourcing is fantastic. We’ve come to Casa Velha every summer and will continue to do so
Delicious food in beautiful setting
Extraordinary service, from the reception to the last minute in the restaurant. The outdoor seating area is just fantastic with the olive trees and the view. Food is very nicely presented And very good. Highly recommend it.
First class food , great ambiance and wonderful staff! The shellfish bisque, scarlet prawn , turbot and sea bass were exceptional! Can’t recommend this place enough! We will definitely go back.
Fantastic meal with good service in a lovely setting
The whole evening is a wonderful experience. The staff are so welcoming, the restaurant is beautiful and if the weather is good then the tables outside are very special. The food is absolutely amazing and never fails to impress. The little perfectly made canapés, the presentation and even the crockery all add to the occasion. I always look forward to going to Casa Velha and always leave saying that it was a prefect evening.
Lovely setting perfect evening excellent service Good wine list The problem is the menu is v limited unless you go for the gastronomic tasting The a la carte had v few warm starters all shellfish and some really nice starters on tasting menu not available which was odd Had a great evening tho and might return
This was our fourth visit to CV. Service is always excellent. We had the 4 course tasting menu with wine. Be prepared for very small portions even with only 4 courses. The wine pairing is varied - though 2 of the wines I disliked intensely and had to ask for alternatives. This was done without question. Always a lovely evening, though for myself the food on this occasion was disappointing.
We visited this restaurant after 26 years from our last visit. We decided on the 7 course tasting menu with wine pairing. The food was amazing, the staff were very helpful and informative with their knowledge of the wine.even the coffee was the best I had tasted all week. A must visit restaurant
Booked on Fork, your wonderful website. However Casa Velha has no idea we were arriving for our ‘meal’. After an hour and a half wait we received our starters, for most of it to be poured on ourselves by a poor waiter. After our mains arrived which were extremely disappointing in comparison to the many times we have been to Casa Velha under Celene’s management, we were very underwhelmed. Overall a disappointing evening, unfortunately not up to past standards. It would appear under Qunita Do Lago’s management restaurant standards are starting to slip.
Excellent food, excellent service
Excellent....which is why we keep coming back!
Tje starter was served cold , the desert menu does not fit a Michelin star rated restaurant . The setting is nice and welcoming but service was slow
Sadly not what it used to be.
My family and I have been regular guests at Casa Velha for more than 15 years. We were excited by there being a change in chef as all of the advertising suggested that the food would be exquisite thanks to the chefs apparent pedigree. Unfortunately, the menu was not inspired at all and did nothing to demonstrate that a new chef was in town. The amuse bouche was steak tartare, but instead of delighting the palette it was dry and hard and one guest’s steak was inedible as it was one piece of sinewed steak. We asked for that to be shown to chef but we never heard from chef. My fois gras was fine, although both slices of brioche were burnt and the “extra brioche” I requested was just toasted bread. My main course, the tenderloin was lovely - although the extra vegetables I requested was a tiny portion. The mil folhas was not particularly pleasant either, instead of it being rich and creamy and sweet as you would expect, it appeared to have marmalade or some other bitter jam in it. The icing on the cake though was the error on the bill - I was charged for 3 extra starters. I did not complain about any of the above as it was a special occasion and I didn’t want to spoil the evening. However, the bill was the last straw and at that point I complained about everything. Shauna, the front of house lady, apologised for the error on the bill - it was her mistake. She went and discussed all the issues with the manager and then came back with a corrected bill which also removed the covert charge. But in all of this, the manager didn’t bother to come over and discuss the complaints. The removal of the covert charge is the very least I would expect given that the covert (which includes the amuse Boucher was bad). There was no mention of the burnt brioche or the inedible steak and there wasn’t even the offer of a drink on the house to make up for the €70 overcharge on the bill. And no mention of “happy birthday” despite having been told at the time of the booking that it was a special evening. Casa Velha is one of my favourite restaurants and I just hope that the chef does better in the future.
Carob dessert very disappointing. Starter and main were good but lacked the usual wow factor. Have been coming to CV for years - I’d my wedding reception here. I hoped the standard would be the same as Celine and Yannick’s tenure. But it falls short I’m afraid.
Fantastic food in an unbelievable location- heaven! Excellent service and very attentive to our kids. We’ll definitely come back and can only recommend to try it
We were greeted with a warm welcome. Staff were attentive and friendly. The food was excellent and beautifully presented. The candlelit outdoor terrace in amongst the olive trees with the sun setting made it a perfect evening. We’ll definitely visit again!
A beautiful dinner in a beautiful setting. This dinner was definitely a dining experience and not for the faint hearted. Exquisite dishes executed with precision and flair. The staff were impeccable, even producing blankets once the sun fell behind the trees. Definitely somewhere for a special occasion.
Stunning setting. Service on arrival was excellent. All the staff were very helpful and polite. Food & drinks were perfect. The most beautiful food and place to have dinner in the evening.
