6/10After seeing this listed on Michelin’s app, I expected much more. The starters were good, but the mains were poor. The rice and beans were complete misses. My parter’s main came 15 minutes later than mine, and because I waited for him, mine was cold by the time his arrived. The horchata is not prepared and comes from a mix, which makes me suspect the mole (much harder to make) does too.

9/10Great restaurant. The found is excellent and we had a really nice time. The street food and plate to share (we had chicken and carne) were amazing. The spicy margarita and cavita one are really good. Only downside: the classic margarita could be better.

8.5/10Our meal ranged from bland and uninteresting to excellent from plate to plate. Tuna Tostada was very good, the Baja Fish Tacos were flavorless, the Chicken with Mole Verdes was excellent. The sides were a nice addition.

9/10I really wanted to love this place - and I did - when it comes to wonderful ambience and service. The food, although competently cooked, was not surprising or wow enough, particularly taking into account that it's fairly pricey. Certain dishes, like the chicken, just lacked a bit of seasoning, although beautifully chargrilled. Some other dishes, like smoke beets for example, were a good idea, but I felt that the chef could have run with it and made it more powerful. It was almost apologetic. Tuna tostadas was, in my opinion, the most successful dish. Desserts were the weakest link. In terms of management decisions, what I did not like was the fact that they had a selection of cocktails on the restaurant menu for £13. But, when we were asked to move downstairs to the bar area, all of the cocktails were £17-£20! So, although lovely, way too pricey.

What makes Cavita Restaurant different? Cavita Restaurant is truly a heritage Mexican cuisine experience on the Michelin Guide. Cavita encompasses food traditions from all over Mexico, from the capital, to Oaxaca and the Yucatan Peninsula. The 70-cover restaurant has an open fire kitchen at its core, with reclaimed granite tables for couples and smaller groups, as well as communal dining available at the chef's table. Downstairs sits the hidden mezcaleria, Mayahuel, a beautiful atmospheric cocktail and mezcal bar and a wonderful spot to enjoy the finest Mexican spirits.
