Steaks are priced at restaurant premium levels - I got the porterhouse. So overcooked and I asked for another one. That was also overcooked. But too late to send it back. .

A little disappointing . have dinned here very often when attending football games. Only offered a set menu for this event. Starter a shared seafood platter. Sea Scallops weel passed being overcooked, try incinerated. Some of the prawns smelled of iodine. Main course a choice of three. All at our table chose steak which we were told all came medium, 2 were , 1 was medium rare, 2 very well done. Potato rosti on all bare 2 plates were burnt on the under side. All of the meals were bordering on cold. Extremely busy night may be the reason, but would expect they have had many of these.

We had another fab evening at the Caxton on a cold, winter night in June, our third visit in the past 12 months. The place just seems to get better each time. They now have a winter specials menu, where all items are under $20. That’s a great help to us seniors struggling to cope, as prices soar to unheard of levels. Being a member of the Caxton Club, also gave me a 20% discount but only on the food, which I feel is a bit mean, especially given the rather exorbitant beer prices i.e. 14 pesos for a pint of Great Northern, the most I’ve ever paid for a pint of standard local brew. That was a bit over the top and kind of left a sour taste in my mouth especially since everything else was reasonably priced. But there you have it. Welcome to Australia 2022, the land of Hyperinflation. The service, as always, was friendly, efficient and polite and the evening ran smoothly from beginning to end. Our booked table was ready and waiting for us. Orders were promptly taken and drinks, entrée, main courses and dessert came out at a steady clip in the correct order. We ordered a calamari starter, and for mains, two items off the specials menu: the 300g rump steak with chips, salad and pepper sauce and the vegetarian dish of the day, which was spicy noodles with veg. For dessert, our fave sticky date pud. All the meals were tasty and filling, beautifully prepared with fresh, high quality ingredients. The pud was a delight: a generous piece of sweet, moist cake with lashings of dates that you could see and taste, and accompanied by a dollop of fresh cream. The perfect way to end the meal. Our attentive waitress even bought us an extra serve of ice cream to go with it when we asked. No extra charge for that, but then a sticky date pud without ice cream is like a dog without a bone. All up, and even after my 20% food discount, we still ended up paying a rather hefty 75 pesos for two drinks, an entrée, two mains and dessert. Just goes to show the extent to which the value of our little Aussie peso has been smashed to smithereens thanks to the stupidity of the Res Bank and massive overspending by successive govts. The ambience is casual, laid back and relaxed, although it is chilly in winter and they could do with better heating. There was a decent turnout, but it's a large place with tables well spaced out, so the acoustics were good and we were easily able to converse. To round out an enjoyable evening, there are clean and well provisioned toilets, and parking is a breeze either on the street outside, where restrictions end at 7pm, or in the hotels’ own car park right beside the bistro. Thanks guys, we’ll be back.

Food was excellent and initial service was great. Although it was a busy game night, it did seem difficult to get a drinks order for the table and it appeared we needed to wave down the staff with drinks and food orders as 4-5 different waitresses were all unsure of where our table was located. Will definitely come again when hosting clients for a game night.

A must do when in Brisbane, service was fantastic. The food was very generous and we will definitely be returning. Importantly, there were plenty of Bronco supporters in the house!

The Eye Fillet my wife ordered was the most disappointing. It was dry and more like 110% 'well' cooked than medium-well. It was not thick at all as the hostess said. It was good that we didn't ask for that to be split in two (horizontally) when cooked as the hostess suggested. Otherwise it would have been like those minute steak. There was not much taste of beef in the steak either, same for my thick cut porterhouse, but the same dryness and the unmistakable taste of overcooked food (maybe because they are char grilled?) when we ate the steak. The salt & pepper calamari was also disappointing. It was tender but like chewing tasteless elastic. We tried this restaurant because of the very high rating but we left very disappointed.
