The setting could not have been more perfect-- a lovingly restored chateau, a lovely summer's evening with swallows dancing through the air. The food was good but certainly not sublime. However, it was fairly priced. The enjoyment of everything was a bit spoiled by the waiter telling us that each wine we wanted to order was no longer available. He then recommended some very expensive, though not much better, wines. We had no choice but to follow his recommendations because everything else seemed to be out of stock. It is an old, though not subtle trick. Bit of a shame.
Disappointed. Poor and untimely service with numerous errors occurring throughout the night. Fish course had scales and bones and yet no compensation was provided. Highly overpriced for what you get! Never coming back.
My friend knew the restaurant well from many visits under the previous management. Only one other table had clients - on the Saturday of a public holiday weekend (Pentecost) - an ominous reflection of the restaurant's current reputation. We were bitterly disappointed by lunch, choosing from the top set menu: only two starters (one centred on raw grey prawns), an adequate guinea fowl main course and, worst of all, the so-called liquid chocolate mousse with single cherry served in a mini-pissoir! Appalling and everything described pretentiously on the menu. The lunch bore no comparison with my experience there with the same friend three years ago, nor with our dinner the previous evening at a Chinon restaurant. A real shame when the Chateau de Marcay was formerly outstanding.

A delicious place. Probably one of the best, if not the best in Chinon/Langeais neighborhood. A talented and devoted team at work in a beautiful castle. Chef and Sommelier definitely deserve a special mention. Chef proposes many different and refined meals, even deserts are impressive. Sommelier was a very inspired guide, able to suggest us very nice wines that fits perfectly with our meals. A grand bravo to all the team. We might spend some time at the hotel during our next stay in the region.
Good food and wine choices, but no option to swap choices between "set" menus. Excellent amuse bouche. Higher than expected prices. Inordinately hot dining room with no a/c or opened windows.
Outstanding quality in beautiful surroundings, hard to find a flaw so I'm not going to try.
Beautiful setting, food and service - a unique experience
