The food and atmosphere are too old fashion. The food is too heavy and old fashion cooked. The prices are not matching what we get. New restaurants and chefs are cooking the fish in a more interested way. The waiter was very nice and funny though. Dommage...

First time at Chez Fonfon, suggested by person i know. Nice and friendly restaurant located by a very tiny bay that was probably a village of fisherman. Now is busy with bistrot and bars, and still remains a nice place where to go, while remaining in Marseille. Experience with Bouillabaisse and grilled fish was superb, and also the wine that was suggested by the waiter was great. A place that i strongly suggest. Their speciality is bouillabaisse. You will like it.
The service of the waiter was really good., The restaurant itself was not up to the its fame. regarding the cuisine, it was very really disappointing. we ordered one bouillabaisse and one Bourride to test both. they were the worse we have ever eaten. the soup very waterish, the fish was not warm and tasteless. when complaining to the waiter, he confessed that fish was prrpared in the morning and boiled, which is unacceptable in such restaurant in Marseille...i asked them to make a proper one with fresh fish to be prepare on the table in front of the guest. that was not possible for one person bouillabaisse billed 55 euros though.. All in all, having a bouillabaisse chez Fonfon is not worth it at all. having tried this traditional meal in many other places, i can say without any doubt that Chez Fonfon is over rated!!
Excellent Boullabaise: a lot of Fish + as much as hot bouillon as you want. Couldn’t be better. Friendly staff and nice place. 20 min from walking from the Vieux Port.

Great bouillabaisse I ever had! Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and great dishes & wines. It’s a bit far from the old port but really worth to visit.
We went the restaurant on time there were no one to wellcome us we waited 5 minutes anybody to come Although we did the booking several days ago we couldnt sit by the window It is very nonsense and not concenient that they they dont let boullabeise to be shared. I asked whether the size of the meal big or not the waiter said very big but its for one person and you cant share if you do so I will charge double portions So we ordered 2 and had to leave half of it because its too much for us I wont go again and will tell this to every one
My first and only time having Bouillabaisse. The restaurant is wonderful and the dish is amazing. The flavors were not as I expected and I was more than pleasantly surprised. The service was genial and welcoming. Wonderful wine selection. It was more than I hoped.
