Wonderful cuisine and excellent waiter Daniel
Fantastic 50's atmosphere. Attentive and nice service, specially Daniel ????????good, classic French cuisine.
Everything about this place was PERFECTION!
So nice to discover new places. Cheze Rene is excellent and classic. The courses, the wine and service are in one word: great and original.
Wow, this little restaurant knows what it’s doing! Fantastic food, great service, super welcoming and many older locals know it and Sotheby’s place fills up quickly. Make reservations! Tip - Daniel is one of best waiters you will ever have...
Very friendly staff and excellent food and wine. Reasonable prices and very welcoming to family including two small children. Recommend highly.
A wonderful evening all around - the staff was welcoming and attentive - the food was excellent - and Chez René is a beautiful, elegant, but relaxed restaurant.
The beuf bourginon had an unexpected sour taste and lacked vegetables. I can make it much better myself. Sorry! I also need to mention that the toasted bread served with dip was close to being impossible to chew without breaking your teethth. The sauteed mushrooms were not bad, but could have been better with some care from the chef. No complaints about the service other than the waiter «forgot» to ask if we liked the food. I don’t think we will come back.
Daniel, the waiter, was very nice and helpful. Most of the food was good except for the beef bourguignon. The sauce was good but the meat was not tender and had only 2 pieces. The most annoying thing was that we listened and ordered “the daily special” sauté mushroom for an appetizer. When the bill came, it was 24 euros which was a lot more than we thought since most of the appetizers on the menu were around 10 euros.
An excellent meal in a lovely atmosphere, with good portion sizes.
Our second visit in a week; that says it all. welcomed and recognized almost like the regulars. beef bourgeon very tender. our local Parisian guests loved the chicken. All portions generous, to say the least. Chez Rene is now on our 'recommended' list!
Fantastic authentic french brasserie great food & wine at a reasonable price had a great Lunch & would defiantly return on our next visit to Paris
This was exactly what I wanted and anticipated...a classic French bistro experience with wonderful food, nothing fussy or foo foo, just perfect. Loved the tomato salad, escargot were the largest ever seen, chicken was super tender and plenty to take home, lamb chops were a large portion that somehow got completely consumed. Best of all, we didn't hear one American voice around us, except us:) This is quite obviously a local destination, reinforced by the adjacent group with their dog lounging under a chair! We will return!
Very enjoyable evening. The tomato and goats cheese and the beetroot salad were very tasty. The lamb chops were meaty but the absence of mint sauce was a shame. Chocolate mousse was very rich.
Chez René was recommended to me by someone who knows Paris well. It did not disappoint! The service was friendly, responsive, and subtle—just what service should be. The food was excellent. I had the beef bourguignon, which is one of their signature dishes. It was delicious: very tender beef swimming in a rich sauce with potatoes, carrots, and mushrooms. For dessert I delighted in the chocolate mousse, which was honestly the best chocolate mousse I have had. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone (and everyone!) wanting delicious, authentic French cuisine. It was very reasonably priced for such a fine dining experience.
Excellente cuisine traditionnelle
We love this place with its solid old fashioned but always in style classics and it’s reliable service. Daniel was almost like a dinner companion. What a great waiter. Wonderful dinner.
I have been coming to Chex Rene for 35 years. Never disappoints. A must stop whenever I am in Paris. A classic French bisto. My family ranged in age from 10 to 82. We all ordered the famous Steak Berry. Suoerb!
Good food and service but we wanted to sit outside. They said it was all reserved but tomorrow we can sit outside. They said next time write on the message to ‘sit outside’. Ok, well why not go ahead and place us outside and if we do not want to sit outside put us inside? We made these reservations in February for a July dinner and we were the only ones inside. It was all French speaking people outside, a coincidence?
Best choc mousse. In all of paris

"HISTORICAL LAIR - Paris would not really be Paris without these gourmet monuments. Chez René, an institution of the left bank since the 1950s, bistro-chic decor is handled to perfection: rows of white tablecloths, seats in red leather, copper hooks, Picasso, Botero and others on the walls.
SMALL RETRO DISHES - as a good Lyon restaurant, the establishment treats regulars to the grand classics of the region and the must-have French ones: bone marrow grilled with thyme flower, black radish with cream, fresh froglegs à la Provençale, hot Lyon sausage with pistachio, warm apples with oil...
PROUST'S MADELEINE - After this tour de France of local cream, can you still find a small square? The legendary "
