About the restaurant Chez René

"HISTORICAL LAIR - Paris would not really be Paris without these gourmet monuments. Chez René, an institution of the left bank since the 1950s, bistro-chic decor is handled to perfection: rows of white tablecloths, seats in red leather, copper hooks, Picasso, Botero and others on the walls.

SMALL RETRO DISHES - as a good Lyon restaurant, the establishment treats regulars to the grand classics of the region and the must-have French ones: bone marrow grilled with thyme flower, black radish with cream, fresh froglegs à la Provençale, hot Lyon sausage with pistachio, warm apples with oil...

PROUST'S MADELEINE - After this tour de France of local cream, can you still find a small square? The legendary "

Charming restaurant. Attentive service, great wine, delicious authentic French food and the best chocolate mousse I have ever had! I am part Swiss, so I have had a lot!
Highly recommend this gem of a restaurant!

Chez Rene is the best. We have been to Paris 5 times, and have dined there every time. The staff, food, and ambiance couldn’t be better. A classic Parisian restaurant, we always feel that Paris isn’t Paris without at least one dinner at Chez Rene.

Classic French food. Terrace is wonderful. Inside is tightly crowded. We eat here every time we come to Paris ( 3 times a year). It’s wonderful food every time.

Five of us retuned after an absence of several years for a further excursion into the world of lyonnaise cuisine. The staff were as warm and attentive as ever, the servings generous, but we felt that the quality of several of Rene’s dishes has declined. The rognon de veau remained as good as I had remembered, but most of the rest was at least a bit of a let down. The langue de boeuf was well seasoned but tough, the mushroom entree flat, the lamb plat du jour was disappointing. As for dessert, riz au lait was liked by everyone (they use risotto and add a lovely caramel) but the baba au rhum very ordinary. Hopefully just a temporary lapses at this longstanding pillar of excellence.

A very traditional restaurant. The menu deserves some revision or innovation. Maybe it's time to take out eggs mayonnaise.... service is warm and friendly. Good choise of wines. Good address if you want old fashioned french cuisine. Prices in the average of saint germain area

Our main course, a Lyon sausage dish, was very bland and potatoes were not hot. Dessert was very good.

I ordered the beef bourguignon and the meat was fall-off-the-bone tender. Above all, the service was excellent. The waiters were attentive and helped to recommend a dessert that suited my taste.
