About the restaurant Civera Marisquerías

"The Civera Marisquerías seafood restaurant, founded in 1967, and located in the historic center of the city, has a traditional warm decor despite its recent renovations.

Its cuisine is based on Mediterranean gastronomy, specializes in dishes whose main ingredient is fresh fish and seafood. Standing out are the cocochas of hake with angulas, mellow fideuá of lobster with scallops, or calamari from the beach.

As well as being an ideal place to celebrate all kind of events, with capacity for 200 people in their dining room, we must mention its excellent delivery service and its virtual restaurant for which the Civera Marisquerías was awarded by the Federación Empresarial de Hostelería of Valencia in 2008. After a delicious meal, the location of the place allows you to visit tourist attractions such as the National Museum of ceramics and Sumptuary arts, the Plaza de los Toros and the Museo Taurino, and the Cathedral of Valencia."

We were shepherded into a separate room along with all other tourists. We did feel rather alienated. Would have been nice to be with the local patrons as atmosphere was completely lacking in our separate dining area.
Staff were however very friendly and food and drink reasonably priced.

Authentic experience! The meal was delicious and the service was so professional. We were the only” non locals” in the restaurant so I knew we made the right choice!

We had only one day in Valencia and, knowing it is famous for Paella, we spent much time researching restaurants. We eventually booked Civera and could not have made a better choice. It was most definitely not a touristy restaurant and everyone else in the restaurant seemed to be speaking Spanish. Everything was excellent from the nautical décor to the food to the service. We were also impressed by the comprehensive list of symbols to indicate allergens. The waiters were all professional, friendly and helpful, especially when they realised our Spanish was virtually non-existent. We chose seafood paella and were quite willing to wait for it to be prepared. Meanwhile we were brought complimentary olives, gazpacho and tomato salsa to accompany the bread. We chose a Valencian rose wine which was inexpensive but very good. We enjoyed the paella which was full of flavour. The dessert menu was also good and after the delicious Kilimanjaro coffee ice-cream that I enjoyed, we were brought a glass of complimentary dess

I asked about "clochinas", the local shells of Valencia, we're informed they were in the beginning of the season and were not so big. We ordered anyway. We received regular mussel, and when complained, the waiter (another one) said there were no "clochinas", and that those mussels were not even spanish, they were italian...
My husband ordered small fried fish, they said they had none and suggested "puntillas reboçadas" which is deep fried small squid. They came covered with fried egg and "jamon", which we did not ordered... and when we pointed it out, the waiter just shook his shoulders...
Really disappointed. It's become a restaurant (badly) targeting serving tourists. Do not recommend, unfortunately.
