This restaurant has a good situation overlooking the Thames. Good menu with ample choice for vegetarians. Staff attentive but some would benefit from a more relaxed smiling manner. Good prices.

Mainly go here as usually quiet so can eat without too much noise around us. Food is ok, service is ok. Prices ok. Not for a special meal but just a chance to eat out for a reasonable price.

This was booked as a treat to help a friend who has had a medical diagnose that was not expected. The Crowne Plazza Hotel Reading, restaurant employee firstly said we have no booking and tried to show us back to the exit. We a asked him to check again he refused and said we had clearly made a mistake and walked away . We spoke with reception who had no issue finding our booking which said was made only today. Re confirmation of attendance was made today after email received asking me to do so.. Booking made 3-4 days ago Reception offered a free drink while something was rustled up!!. 30 mins later sat at a table in thorough fare outside the main restaurant layed up area. Food was poor , with tea served in huge "builder" mugs. No one checked on us re quality of food. On asking for bill to pay and name of hotel manager, restaurant manger appeared and said he would take 20% off bill. The charge of £25 pp but for x 2 was charged £40 was not good value for money. The attitude of restaurant staff was very unprofessional and un welcoming. The restaurant and foyer area were not busy at the time of this visit. Eventuality had name and email address of hotel manager. Restaurant manager unhappy about giving me this info as "I have given you a discount already Madam" Unfortunately a very poor experience from start to finsh.

This was not quite the first afternoon tea experience I’d hoped to give our Ukrainian guests. We were kept waiting at the start because apparently the booking hadn’t come through as an afternoon tea. When it did arrive, there was cream cheese instead of clotted cream with the scones and although we asked for tea as well as the complimentary coffees we were offered for the delay, this never materialised. It is a nice location with a nice view and the food was good when it arrived (excepting the cream) but it was a decidedly average experience and overpriced because of this at £25 a head.

Had a lovely after noon tea was delicious, but looked like alot of money £65 for just one 3 tier cake stand for 3 people ,don’t get me wrong there was enough but maybe spread it out onto two cake stands so u feel ur getting ur money’s worth ,plus we’ve been to dobbies garden center £13.50 per person ,and u get a lot more 2 x3 tiers for 3 people ,there also doing a deal 2 people for £20 till September ,so when u weigh it up it does seem a lot

I had booked a reservation for 2 people at the crown plaza caversham online. When I got there the staff didn't seem to have a clue about an afternoon tea atall! I showed the boss the confirmation along with the waiter too. The manager explained there wasn't enough food for 2 people for the afternoon tea. We had to wait over an hour for the food to have to eat when it came out 4 sandwiches, 2 scones, 2 desserts and 2 swerkers of fruit. I paid half price for the food but for the appealing customer service I should of got it for free!

The worst afternoon tea that I’ve ever experienced. Consisted of 2 tiny strawberries cut into 4 halves, 1 tiny cake cut into 2 halves, 2 small scones, no chocolate eclairs just 2 tiny chocolate ganache where the bottom layer had come off, possibly still stuck at the bottom of the packet it came out from. The sandwiches were dry and seemed like they had been made earlier and now dry Both teas were cheap quality with no distinctive flavour. Probably should put up a review so the public can see. Crowne Plaza need to address. I would happily welcome the opportunity to discuss further.

Upon arrival, we were told by the manager that there were no scones available for the afternoon tea. We asked whether there would be extra different cakes. He smiled and went away. He brought us our cups of tea and we then waited 25 minutes for the sandwiches and cakes to arrive. By which time the tea was cold so we asked for more, which arrived quickly. The sandwiches we very plain. Plain cheese, plain egg and plain ham. No additions to the sandwiches such as chutney or tomatoes or even a slice of cucumber! The cakes were not made onsite they appeared similar to those which you would buy from a local supermarket. Plain mini muffins and small cakes with a smear of cream icing plus some mini chocolate brownies and a few strawberries. There were empty tables next to us that had not been cleared or cleaned and even though the restaurant was almost empty the service was very slow and clearly nobody wanted to clean or clear these tables. We had decided to go there to try out the afternoon tea as my wife has a party of 10 to celebrate a significant birthday and thought this might be a suitable venue! She will not be going there for sure! After complaining the manager did discount the bill but he was very indignant about this and didn't apologise either! I am waiting to hear back from IHG to make a complaint to them....

Excellent food, clean and excellent service. Only Downside was the smell of tobacco smoke wafting through the restaurant from the outside seating area.

Went for afternoon tea, service awful, no scones or cream, husband went to waitrose and brought scones, cream and Jam, never asked how everything is, no apology at all. Terrible afternoon tea

The service was the worst service I have ever experienced in a hotel. I am not sure what was going on behind the scenes, but the restaurant team were not working well. The manager was very professional & apologetic. But I will Never go back!

The sun was shining so the staff let us move to a table outside where we could enjoy the weather and the river views. They were helpful and attentive throughout. The restaurant fell calm and welcoming and the food was lovely. We will be back
