On Friday 18th. April (Good Friday), my wife and I took a trip to Zeeland, first visited Middelburg and decided to go for lunch to Zierikzee, at home in the morning I had printed out a list of restaurants in that area.
We decided after a bit of sightseeing and walking around in Zierikzee to go to de Beuze which had good reviews on the Dutch restaurant site " Iens" .
The restaurant is situated in a 17th century building, when we entered the restaurant around 2pm. it was reasonable filled up with people so we sat on top with a view of the bar and restaurant below.
It is a family owned and operated restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere, service is very good, proprietor and wife together with waitress are well in control and know how to give you the feeling of being their guest, the eldest son is responsible for the kitchen.
After deliberation with the owner we decided to have a 2 course lunch, entree:Tasting of Oysters, 6 oysters (Zeeuwse creuse) prepared in different ways, lightly fried with garlic, poached with ginger lemon and au gratin with tomato concassee coriander.
Main course: grilled Oosterschelde lobster (Oosterschelde being , which is only available from the beginning of April to beginning of July, the owner went out of his way to show us the details of a Oosterschelde lobster, he collected one from the kitchen and pointed out the blue spots on the claws which are typical for this type of lobster.
With that we had a bottle of white dry fruity house wine (Domaine de Tariquet)
The tasting of the oysters was very good, a nice way to get to know different ways of preparation beside the raw ones which we also like a lot.
The hit of the day was the lobster, just natural grilled, if needed you can use the orange light mayonnaise which has been prepared with the cooking liquid of the lobster, we just consumed it as it came and it was excellent!
If you are ever in the Zierikzee area (lots to see) and would like a very good experience for reasonable prices (we think), do not mis this restaurant..
