About the restaurant De Waag

Historical weighing house in Schoonhoven

‘Eethuis De Waag’ is a cozy restaurant in the old town of the silver city Schoonhoven. You can go here for a drink, lunch, dinner or just for a freshly brewed cup of coffee. On the menu you’ll find a varied selection of seasonal dishes. In winter you’ll stay warm in the last remaining Waag of Krimpenerwaard. During the summer you can have drinks and little snacks on the partially heated terrace until dark. The historic building formerly served as a weighing house, where hemp for the rope making business was weighed.

It is a veey lovely place. In the inside there are only 6 tables, so it has a very intimate atmosphere. The warm bread basket is delicious, with homemade butter and aioli. The ribs were a little bit dry for our taste, but they were fresh and with enough meat, I think that maybe it was their way of cooking it. The other dish was salmon with white asparagus and white wine sauce, it was very yummy and well presented. The service was fast and the waitress was attentive and with a good English. Very nice place to go if you are visiting and want to try local produce.
