Fabulous
Consistently very good in every respect. Certainly one of the best restaurants for service and quality of food in Funchal.
Service and manner correct and civil. Food satisfactory, but portions meagre. E.g. two small potatoes, a spoon of beans only with scabbard fish. So small had a hypo at 3.30am.
Great food and excellent service however, the restaurant was cold but the staff agreed to move us to a table in a warmer part of the restaurant,
The restaurant was full, so really busy, resulted in a long waiting time for our food but they were very apologetic. It seemed that all other tables received a complement of the house starter but we had nothing, an oversight obviously. Otherwise food was excellent and would definitely return.
Lovely little restaurant. Good idea to book. Was already busy at 7 p.m when we had reserved our table for. Very nice atmosphere, ambiance and views in the upstairs dining room, nicer than the lower level.
Tried this restaurant and was not disappointed as the food was very good, staff were friendly and helpfull and would certainly go again.
The whole experience was very disappointing. Slow service, poor quality food and little better, if as good as, a school dinner from my youth. Never again!
Last minute booking for Christmas Day dinner. Very good local and Mediterranean food. Service was excellent. Great atmosphere as well.
Friendly welcome, great food - really enjoyed the Christmas menu. Dined as a single visitor and not rushed at all.
Really enjoyed our evening meal, following a recommendation from a friend.
Recomendo!
Fantastic. This was our 2nd time, will definitely go again.
Came back to this restaurant for a second visit this week. I usually try to vary my dining options whilst in Funchal but have made an exception with this restaurant as the food and service is absolutely faultless. Will definitely put this one on my shortlist for my next visit to Funchal.
Slovenly evening ; lovely venue , excellent food , friendly service . Highly recommended
Our first visit to this restaurant and will certainly be on our list for a return visit. The food was excellent and the staff were really friendly and helpful. I would thoroughly recommend this to anyone looking for well cooked food and served in a good atmospheric restaurant.
Excellent very busy
We were made very welcome as always this is an excellent traditional Madeiran restaurant serving good food with friendly service which we like visiting when we go to Madeira
My main criticism is that, for my main corse, I ordered veal (medium to well done) and my wife ordered steak (rare). I received steak rare, while my wife was served steak well-done. All in all, considering the fact that Dona Amelia is supposed to be ranked in the top ten of restaurants in Funchal, all I can say is the standards must be very low.
We had to wait a little too long for our main course, but there were 8 of us.. Only two had a starter.. So this maybe the reason.. And the delay.. However we had a very pleasant evening. Thank you
The food was excellent. We had duck pate and prawns for starters and scallops and grilled prawns as a main with coffee to finish and complimentary Portuguese tarts. Only negative, it was a Monday and restaurant was very busy and they did not appear to have enough staff, so we had to wait to be seated and there were long waits between meals. Apart from that the staff were really good and friendly. Would recommend.
