    This was a last minute find in NYE and very happy with it. The food was excellent - delicious, well portioned and a very balanced menu. The drink selection was also more than sufficient and well priced. Service was exemplary and made the evening. Will definitely be returning soon.

    My husband and I dine at first edition regularly when we visit Canberra and we are very happy with the food. However in this occasion the quality of the dishes was very inconsistent. I ordered the lasagne which was very dry and poorly presented. My husband ordered a missed dish which was served with some flat bread. This bread was so hard we couldn’t bite through it. Some of the other dishes were very good but all in all the experience was spoiled. We’re going to have to think carefully about revisiting this restaurant as it’s been a favourite of ours

    This restaurant was in a hotel. It was very nice and the food was very good. Would definitely go again. It was not very expensive either. The lamb shank was very good.

    Lovely bar with great service and food. Had a couple of drinks which were great, oysters were fresh and overall food quality is fantastic. Would definitely return again.

    My Massaman Lamb Curry with Coconut Rice was enjoyable. I had a side of green beans that was undercooked and the serving was quite small. The chocolate fondant was served with sorbet, not vanilla bean ice cream as stated on the menu and I was not warned beforehand of the change - I would have preferred ice cream. A hotel restaurant so not much atmosphere but convenient if you’re a guest. The staff were very nice.

    We were pleasantly surprised with everything about this restaurant. The staff were very friendly and provided excellent service, the atmosphere was great and like stepping back in time. We ordered the fillet steak which was full of flavor and cooked to perfection. Highly recommend.

    Very nice food and the staff ia very helpful. Really enjoy the food since the lamb was cooked perfectly. The view is pretty good and the craft beer is yum.

    Stayed in this hotel and decided to have dinner here. The food was average. Some combination of flavours just did not hit the mark. Service was friendly and courteous from a young man who looked after us that night. We sat at a table that was next to a curtain dividing the dining room from the lounge/bar area. My back was literally cms away from the person sitting on the other side of the sheer curtain. The restaurant should look at repositioning the table because that was way to close. I could hear their entire conversation and I’m sure they could hear ours.

    The best thing was the service from the young man who served and looked after our table. Very polite and friendly and always had a smile on his face. He remembered us 2 days later when we went to the bar to have some hot Chocolate. The food, I would rate average, some dishes were better than others. The chicken supreme was dry and quite bland. It definitely needed more sauce or gravy. The rack of lamb was cooked perfectly. The fried squid (entree) was very tender but the floury coating had a ‘sandy’ texture to it. As for the dessert, the fondant was deliciously perfect with an oozing centre. We also had the blueberry and apple crumble which was average. I rated this restaurant 8/10 for value for money because we are Accor Plus members and got a discount on the food. Otherwise I would have rated it 5/10 based on the taste of the dishes we had.

Following a recent refurbishment, Novotel Canberra welcomes its premiere dining venue, First Edition Bar & Dining. Located on the first floor, the 180 seater establishment has been transformed into a masculine and luxurious space drawing inspiration from old world reading rooms oozing home style sophisticated charm.

Dedicated to sourcing the best local produce and paying respect to those who farm it, Executive Chef, Jennie Tressler has created a diverse seasonal all-day dining menu showcasing the vast array of fresh produce available within the nation's capital and surrounds.

For those wanting to sit back and relax, the bar serves up a curated menu of spirits and specially crafted cocktails using the finest seasonal ingredients whilst paying homage to local distilleries and tap houses. Settle in for a night of seasonal tipples or a delicious meal in the plush surrounds of First Edition Bar & Dining.

First Edition is open seven days for breakfast from 6:30am to 9:30am Monday through Friday and 6:30am to 10:30am on weekends and public holidays, all day dining available from 11:00am, dinner from 5:30pm – 9:30pm.
