Beautiful atmosphere, a nice quiet retreat from the hustle and bustle of the Ribeira. Friendly service and AMAZING food - definitely try the Polvo à Lagareiro!

Pleasant restaurant built in ancient stone structure and nicely decorated. Despite the name, Forno Velho, there is nothing ancient about it, it is a modern hotel restaurant, and it does not feature any “ forno velho” ( old furnace) anywhere to be seen. Staff is attentive and the food is good. It offers good discount when booked on line.

Friendly stuff, unfortunatly there was an emergency in the kitchen. I guess on a normal day they do even better

Food was good, pork, beef and lamb could not be faulted and it was good to have vegetables. Plates could be heated which always helps keep the meal hot. Coffee good but could have been hotter. Excellent wines by glass

Good food and kind staff!!

Very attentive servers. In our booking we listed our dietary requirements and they noted them all. But food was only ok. One guest had a seafood risotto that was salty to the extreme. Restaurant very comfortable. Very high ceilings and spaciously places tables gave it a cool airy feel.

Excellent service and ambience with helpful advice on wine choice. Our table was at 8.00 and there were already a coup,e of the dishes that had run out. I chose the English roast beef starters than culiflower purée which was lovely - husband had the fish stew which was a little watery although the salmon tasty. Mains were the mussels and lobster risotto which was really good and the Black Pig which was good but could have done with a sauce as the dish was a little dry. Very attentive waiters and classy surroundings made for an enjoyable evening.

The atmosphere was really nice, the food was really good, the service was a lil bit slow but all waiters was really nice and they also offer us the desserts.

Very nice food but above all, excellent service. We recommend the clam and blue lobster risotto and the black pork.

A hidden gem! We spotted this place while walking around - a delightful discovery. Grilled octopus was absolutely beautiful. Nice local wine selection as well

Really good place, creative and gastronomic cuisine for a very decent price. The location is really good too, close to the river.
