10/10Really enjoyed our evening at this restaurant. The food was excellent and the service also. Our waiter was delightful. He explained everything to us in excellent English and the ambiance in the restaurant was great. Would highly recommend!

10/10The menu is excellent (food and wine), atmosphere is inviting and staff is hospitable. All at great value. Particularly loved the anchoas/boquerones starter and the house salad. Wine served at optimal temperature.

9/10Very nice restaurant, excellent service, gorgeous presentation of the dishes. Even the music really caught my attention - very good addition to the whole ambiance of the place which was friendly, light and modern. The food was excellent. Octopus was slightly overcooked imho, but the delicious sauce and the addition of wakame salad really compensated for it. Also excellent were the mussels in tempura, perfectly seasoned with flake salt. And a very simple but heart-warming traditional Spanish dessert of rice pudding cooked aldente was the great finishing touch.

10/10If you're in Hondarribia, try this restaurant: it's superb. It's not just the imaginative, creative and delicious food it offers, but also the lovely vibe and friendly staff. We liked it so much we booked two evenings running. A real gem.

10/10This was a great find. The decor is lovely - much more modern than we were expecting - and the food is exceptional. The chef and staff are very friendly, and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening. This was more than a meal, it was an experience. So glad we were able to get a reservation.

10/10We have been spending a week in San Sebastián and have enjoyed many wonderful lunches and dinners and must say that our lunch here was one of the best! The chipirones and mushroom risotto was delicate and absolutely delicious. Also try the croquettes. Mouth watering. Don’t miss out on the exquisite home made dessert.

9.5/10In the old streets of Hondaribia a little pearl is hidden. The way up to the Gastroteka was already nice and when were there the cordial way we were welcomed promised a lot. The wonderful owner explained us al the delicious things he could offer . We started with very tasty “ mejillones en tempura” and jamón de Cordoba .Both so Good!

10/10I found Gastroteka Danontzat on Google and when I checked their website and saw the menu and the history I couldn't wait to go there. We got a very warm welcome by the waiter who immediately gave us some info about the restaurant. 'Danontzat' means 'for everyone' in basque. He helped us to choose the best dishes on the menu and Oh My God they were all delicious! I kid you not, this is probably the best restaurant I've ever been to. Where to start? We had the Matrimonio bien avenido, the sardina ahumada con huevas de pez volador and the Manjar de fenicios first. Oh dear lord! At that point we knew we were in the right place... Simple and beautiful these dishes were and the taste of the fresh and pure products they use was overwhelming. We ordered the sardina again! After that we had the Pipas del mar. When you think this can't get better with the first three pintxos we had, this one topped it. Mussels in a very light tempura with smoked paprika and salt. Every single little mussel was a little orgasm in our mouth. After that we had the Lengua curada sobre patata confitada al pimenton, escama de sal ahumada y trufa negra, the pastel de txangurro con salsa cocktail and the croquetas caseras de jamon Iberico and the one with bacalao. Again very simple in it's presentation but yet so full of taste. Last dish was the «EL GALLEGO QUE PERDIO EL PULPO EN COREA»... and again it topped all the other delicious plates. The way the pulpo was preapared and the sauce that it's in were amazing! As much as we wanted to try more dishes we couldn't, we were full. Gorka Irisarri, the chef, came by our table and we felt immediately the presence of a happy, passionate man. We had a good conversation and he told us some stories and myths about some dishes and about the drinks we were served. We had an amazing, delicious evening in Danontzat. BTW when you are in the basque country, try the Txakoli. It's great. As we live about 12OO km away it will be difficult to pass by from time to time but we will. I assure you. We will.

9.5/10This restaurant was recommended to my wife and I by the owner of our rental apartment We tried to walk in a few evenings but it was always full. Finally made a reservation. It was quite modern inside which was a surprise and we had to eat on stools at a counter. It was beautiful, but not he most comfortable,The owner/chef greeted us warmly and explained in detail everything on the menu. Every item we ordered was exceptional and when we felt that we could accommodate one more dish we asked him to select it and surprise us. He did, with a squid ink calamari that I am sure we will never have the opportunity to enjoy again. We left feeling we were leaving a friend's dining room having eaton one of the best meals ever

10/10I would definitely recommend this place! The food is fantastic, and is only made better by the enthousiastic explanations of the chef/boss. The rest of the staff was also really very friendly, and the place has a nice atmosphere.

10/10What a pleasure to meet the chef and camarero in this very special place. The food is prepared with intelligence and experience, and my husband and I enjoyed everything. The carpaccio of prawn and red tuna is a winner! The fish soup rich and so flavorful. Thanks for a wonderful meal.

10/10We walked by this place the night before and couldn’t get a table. We booked one for comida the next day saw why it was so busy. The chef came to out table, talked us through the menu and helped us choose. We ate traditional Basque food and enjoyed every bite. The menu changes with availability; ask for help. They are exceptionally helpful. With 2 glasses of wine, our very filling comida was about $75, a bargain. Reserve a table before you get there.

10/10What an experience. Whilst the food was excellent, the experience offered by Gorka as he presented it was a totally different one, full of passion for Basque cooking and enthusiasm for his recipes. A fantastic way to spend a couple of hours. Loved it.

10/10Dinner was so grand we came back for lunch the next day. Welcoming setting, excellent local food served artistically, with explanations of the ingredients and the preparation. Featured a strong invitation- our food is made to share among your party! A truly excellent experience- couldn’t not recommend it more highly.
