Very friendly staff.
The bread we ordered wasn't done. The homemade butter was tasty though.
Several things on the menu were not avalible. We had a Good time and the main course was excellent.

Jacqueline and I hadn't been out for dinner for a while. We remembered a very nice meal we had had here last year, with family, and returned. We didn't regret it. The decor of the restaurant is not exciting, but who cares? We come here for the food and the welcoming atmosphere. The antipasti were not as exciting as last time, but good. The main dishes (sea bass and tagliatelle alle gamberoni) were excellent, and we enjoyed the wine from Puglia, Negroamaro. It's only a few euros more than the house red, and it's delicious. Don't worry, it's neither black nor bitter.

Visiting my daughter in Groningen, I could not miss the opportunity to eat again at Giovanni's. Just as usual, everything was perfect. We started the evening with antipasti for 2 persons and my daughter had the fish soup. Everything was fresh and tasty. The bread was also home made and as such deliciuos. As a main meal, I had saltimbocca alla romana, my husband had the fish of the day and my daughter ordered the ravioli grande. The saltimbocca and the fish came with spaghetti aglio ollio as a side dish. All very tasty. Even though we were full, we also ordered the tiramisu. It was one of the best that I have ever eaten.

The service was, just as always helpful and cheerful. The girls knew very well which wine will pass by which dish and because you can order them all by glass, we could try a different wine for each dish.

I am just waiting to come back to this elegant and cosy restaurant.

We ate for the second time at Giovanni's. The service ia very helpfull and ready to think of ways to accomodate your wishes. As a starter i can recommend zuppa di boscoi and the autumn salad ( a salad with pears, figs, gorgonzolla, red cabbage and rucolla). We were asked whether we would like to take a break before the main meal, which was welcomed. In the meantime we enjoyed our wine, which was enthouziastically described and recommended. They were right!
As a main meal I took the beef tenderloin a la parma, which was served with spaghetti aglio olio and salad. It was not only tasty but also nicely arranged in the plate. My parner had the sole fish served in a white sauce and with the same side dishes as I had. Really good! The pasta was so tasty that even though we were full we asked for an extra portion. Regardless of the tempting dessert menu we took just coffee with a glass of grappa. I had a great time at Giovanni's! See you next time I am in Groningen.

After starting out with some delicious bruscetta and vitello tonato we moved on to the main dish: Filetto die Parma and Orata. What a treat! Topped it of with some tiramisu and panna cotta. All that accompanied by some good wine. What else do you want? Good service of course! But Giovanni's does not let you down there either. The staff is very attentive and friendly, and the whole atmosphere is very warm and makes you feel comfortable immediately. Definitely going to come back here soon.

I ate at Giovanni's together with my family when I visited my daughter in Groningen. It was a great experience, not only because of the really tasty food but also due to the very relaxing atmosphere and the spontaneous and lovely personnel.

As a starter we shared a big portion of mussels, vitello tonato and cold antipasti. Even the bread that came with the starter was self baked and it was tasting deliciously. You could feel that all were freshly prepared with fresh herbs and no taste enhancers. As a main meal I and my daughter had a big Insalata di Mari, my husband had tenderloin with Gorgonzola sauce and our family friend had the see bass. We ordered also a portion of vegetables on the grill. The portions were generous, served with spaghetti aglio oilio, but we could even get more Gorgonzola sauce or spaghetti if we wanted to. In the Insalata di Mari you could find mossels, vongole, prawns (big and small ones) as well as other types of fish, all prepared in white wine with garlic and fresh herbs. At the end we asked for some bread to simply dip in the delicious sauce. As a dessert we took Dolcetti Italiani, and so we could proof the tiramisu, the panacotta and the limoncello chesscake.

We are not familiar with Italian wines, but for each meal we got advised by the host as to which wine would fit the dish but also our wishes (more fruity, dry etc). Each wine can be ordered per glass or per bottle. In that evening they even had some extra wines which were not on the regular menu.

Thus, if you are visiting Groningen or just want to relax after a busy working day, but also enjoy a tasty and special food, you should definitely pay a visit to Giovanni's.
