I had high hopes for this place too because it was packed. Soon I learned it was packed because no one had their food cause it took forever to serve. But seriously I was at the restaurant for 2.5 hours, and the time it took to eat was 30 minutes. This isn't a good place to go if you want a normal time dinner or if you're hungry. Go a couple of hours before you want to eat.

Ok the real review-- the food itself is a 2. There's absolutely nothing special about it.

I got the fried fish appetizer, which they said would take an hour to prepare. That's because, I think, they go to the store, get a fish, skin it, marinade it, batter it and then fry it. Or maybe they catch the fish fresh. If something takes an hour to prep, I expect it to be delicious. But sadly it was just fried fish without any taste.

I also got the momos. The skin is so thick! And the flavor is not quite there or actually there's not much flavor.

Then we got the vegetable curry which is great if you're 1 year old and can't have solid foods. It was a purée that was sweet and bland. Do they have any spices back there? It was warmish-cold too.

Then they overcharged us on the beers.

I hate leaving such low reviews but it just needs to be done sometimes.

We had a great dinner at Himalayan Kitchen. Took Chicken Garlic Tikka and Gurkha Fish curry was fabulous taste. Decoration was simple but the best with a melodious instrumental music. Service is really attending from a charming lady. All in all a great place to eat.

Had been to this restaurant, real authentic Nepalese & Indian cuisines were served with smile. The staffs are so friendly one feel like if he/she is with close friends. Some artistic picture gives the sensation of being in Asia.
I'll recommend once visit this restaurant nearby Dehallen.

Food was above average. Quantity was little less as compared to other restaurants. Serving was slow, only 1 person was available everything - reception, taking orders, serving food, billing. Restaurant ambiance and decor is nice.

Wonderful friendly people. Large menu choice. Difficult to choose what you really like, as you do not really eat Nepalese food so often! Maybe a good idea to organize Nepalese food tasting evenings. Good wine at very reasonable price. OK for a second visit.

I had been to Himalayan Kitchen along with my girlfriend. Even being living so nearby, we had not been there before. While entering we had thought it as normal restaurant but when we were served with our order, it was awesome!! We had ordered Pharshi (pumpkin) curry and Mo:Mo, which was very very delicious. Service was also very good and attentive. The interior design is not so modern but reflects typical Nepalese/ Indian environment.

We would like to thank Himalayan Kitchen for delicious food and giving us a good care. We are definately going there for next time also and We also recommend you guys to once visit this restaurant !!!!!

We came back to Himalayan Kitchen. The food is amazing and authentic. Location is a hidden gem in the middle of ten katestraat. 2 appetizers, and shared a main course was more than enough. Try the fish curry, and the garlic naan bread.

Words cannot even justify how horrible my experience was at this restaurant. I even signed up on iens.nl just to write this review. With Groupon, I went to this restaurant last night. Firstly, the service was horrible. It took over 45 minutes to get our appetizers and then almost another hour after the appetizers to get our main course. The appetizers were ok.. not fantastic - some potato fritter and shish kebob. After the almost 2 hour wait for the main course, we come to find out the food is disgusting. Lamb Balti - not even sure it was lamb. The meat was hard as a rock. I couldn't break it with a fork. I need a KNIFE to cut it. Also got the Fish Serabi (in coconut milk). That was better, but the sauce was a bit broken up and the fish turned into some sort of mush with the sauce. Forget dessert.. all we could do was get out of there asap. Don't eat here. There are plenty of good indian restaurants in Amsterdam so you do not have to be subjected to such a horrible meal.

We went for dinner to this new place yesterday. The food was amazing and the staff very friendly! I lived in Nepal for two years and coming to this restaurant brought back all the flavours and memories. Its is a very nice cosy place, the portions are big and not expensive at all. I would totally recommend this restaurant to anybody who likes to have a real Nepali food experience! I will be back soon.

Few days ago we ate in this Restaurant. We took mixed starter which was really surprising from the chef, both veg and non veg. Chicken Tikka Jhal Frezi was with full of taste. Naan was a bit small but really testy. Very good food in reasonable price.
Self made kulfi was complement from the chef. Really going back soon.
