The cuisine and service were excellent!
This is a wonderful venue set on Apian Antica amongst Roman ruins and beautiful gardens. The food supurb with a very gracious host.
The surrounding area is amazing. Highly recommend walking up the driveway and talking in the gardens. Paolo was hilarious, kind and helpful. He gave us free champagne and cookies for dessert. All the food we had was incredible. Highly recommend venturing outside the city for this gem!
Best food on our trip and reasonably priced....the owner and his positive attitude and conversation are what made it most enjoyable....and of course the outstanding food!
Absolutely amazing. Paolo made us feel like family as soon as we walked in the door, the setting was beautiful and charming, and the food was so delicious! Definitely a highlight of our entire Rome trip. Just go! It’s worth it! Look at the menu but just order whatever Paolo tells you to!
The place can be a little hard to find if it's your first time. But once you park your car in the lot, turn right and walk up the small hill. The restaurant is at the top. We were welcomed warmly by the owner, a grandfatherly gentleman who led us through a beautiful home and into the main dining room. He took our order as if we were family, poured us some wine, and brought out bread and a buttery spreadable cheese that I could have eaten all day. Our appetizer of cold cuts and roasted zucchini and eggplant could have been a meal. My primi of pasta amatriciana was rich with tomato sauce and pork cheeks. My spouse chose the spaghetti with artichokes and pork cheeks. Generous portions that made us wish we hadn't also ordered a secondo. But the next dishes of the chicken specialty of the house and the veal saltimbocca revived our appetites. The family who owns the restaurant is friendly, welcoming, warm, and engaging. Before we left, the owner gave us an autographed poster of the medieval tower on the property.
I had the most amazing experience at Hostaria Antica Roma. The service was amazing and the food was so delicious. Best food I’ve had in Rome. It is out of the way so a taxi is needed but it’s worth it. The food is reasonably price for the quality you receive. You can tell they love their guests and I was spoilt. It was in a beautiful setting so good be quite romantic for couples. I was solo but still had a lovely time by myself. Once again the service was the best I have ever had. I will be returning.
Paolo was great as was his family! We arrived early before the restaurant opened and they accomodated us with a table to wait and drinks. The meal was great and the conversations with Paolo were even better. Great atmosphere and scenario. I highly recommend this restaurant!
Very nice place, good food (especially the tiramisu), great services. In all, a perfect night
1,000x worth the short taxi ride from downtown Rome to this amazing little restaurant in a garden/ruins. I’m not over exaggerating and I haven’t left reviews for any of the other restaurants we went to our whole trip. This was the best restaurant we have gone to in Italy, not just Rome. I’m telling you the lasagna was AMAZING. Honestly it was all good. Paolo was so kind and so FUN! After eating there tonight we will be changing our plans and will be back tomorrow for sure!
One of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to.
This is a very special restaurant. Do yourself a favor and head outside Rome and discover this special area along the Appian Way. Paolo is a wonderful host and will entertain you with stories, history and explanation of the restaurants mission and charm. The lasagna is the best I ever had. If you are lucky enough, Paolo will treat you to his garlic spread which should be sold at Whole Foods! We will return every trip!
Wonderful experience. Paolo was a great waiter and host. Brought the ancient Roman dishes alive with stories and history.
This is a family run business. Paolo the host was amazing! He made us feel very welcomed and was incredibly hospitable. The restaurant itself is beautiful, and the food was delicous. Will definitely be returning my next trip to Rome. Best place we've dined at in Italy so far!
The best place we ate in Rome! We will definitely come back!
We dined at this restaurant with our kids. It was an amazing an experience. The food was delicious, with recipes that were 2000 yrs old. We felt like we were experiencing the history of Rome. Our waiter/owner was also wonderful. He shared stories with us and engaged, which made the experience even more special.
By Far the best meal I've had. This was the romantic experience we were hoping for on our trip to Rome! You felt as if you were visiting dear friends and they were welcoming you into your home! I will recommend this place to everyone!
Paolo is a magnificent host and made our dinner into a memorable event. Everything was delicious, and we loved every minute of it.
A wonderful dinning experance. You must try the lasagna. Beautiful surroundings, the host goes out of his way to make you feel welcomed.
The highlight of our trip! Food was amazing. Paulo the owner was friendly and made us feel like family. We were here on our last trip to Rome, excited to return and every bit as wonderful as we remembered. Must try the garlic cheese and the “ancient” dishes. Best Triamisu.
Great food especially the original lasagne no tomato recipe The cheese starter was superb as was the wine suggestion Oaulo the owner was Entertaining and interesting Bit of a drive to get there but well worth the trip
Paolo was simply the best host! He regaled us with stories about the history of the place and made us feel so welcome in his beautiful restaurant. The food is unique and amazingly delicious - some of Paolo's recipes are 2000 years old and made me feel like I was born 2000 years too late. Best dinner we had in Rome by far!
Not great food, but very good service
This was one of the most exquisite meals we’ve ever enjoyed made all the more special by the fantastic service and unique setting among ancient Roman ruins. The appetizers and pasta dishes were delicious, especially the cheeses and mushrooms. Paolo regaled us with instructive and funny anecdotes about the dishes prepared for us. It was all top notch, topped off by the best tiramisu I’ve ever tasted. The meal was affordable and left a memory that will last a lifetime. We highly recommend it. Thank you Paolo!
Excellent location, food and service! Away from the tourist traps in town, along the ancient route, the appian way, this restaurant should be your top priority if you’re in Rome to experience the real Roman food and service! The owners were very accommodating and made beautiful arrangement on request, for my wife’s birthday. Couldn’t have asked for anything better.
Amazing food, wonderful service, and a beautiful setting. Don't miss the chance to go here it's truly a special place!
