About the restaurant Hout (Amsterdam)

Life is beautiful

Hout is a restaurant ran by Epicureans, for Epicureans. The natural colours give this place a warm feeling, and nature goes on in the closeby Vondelpark. Have a seat at the long, wooden tables and try making a choice from the tuna tartare with yuzu, the duckliver with cacao and the anjou pigeon for example. Cannot miss!

Another delicious meal at Hout! We tried all the menu offerings and they were all delicious. The amuse Bouche of tuna was a fabulous start. All the fish were flavorful and each dish was fresh and balanced.

Reviews on Iens sounded convincing enough to try something new. Food was okay overall but not really special enough, especially for the price to come back. I rather pay more and have a great food experience. At Hout I found the food just okay from starter to desert. Ingredients seem fresh and very nicely presented on the plate, but everything was rather tasteless, nothing special and lacked character. Service was ok and friendly, but not delivering any extra value in terms of explanation of food or wine advice to complement the food etc what I would expect from restaurants rated above 8.5 pts. Decor overall modern and neat and could be 'gezellig' but was pretty empty despite of the fact I was there on a Thursday evening.

Fantastic service, great surprise menu. Will come back. Prices reasonable for Amsterdam standards. Wine goes well with the courses!
