About the restaurant Hue Cocotte

"CASSEROLE CUISINE - Did you know? The pores of the casserole in cast iron allow developing the aroma of the foods that simmer. Let's check the info, at Aix-en-Provence, in the restaurant of casseroles, Hue Cocotte!

HISTORICAL CENTRE – You will discover the restaurant Hue Cocotte on the small square Ramus, in a pedestrian street, in the heart of the historic centre of Aix-en-Provence. You will be seated in a setting both modern and classic. On sunny days, you can enjoy your meal on the terrace.

CAST IRON - Here, all the dishes are served in cast iron casseroles. The sweet perfumes of the chef's French cuisine are thus trapped until the arrival on the table. Lift the lids... and enjoy!"

Charming, charming place. Inventive home-made food, cute little casserole pots full of flavorful food made with interesting recipes. Well-balanced and healthy. Excellent and personal service. Cute little bistro. I recommend very highly and would happily return.

The setting is lovely. The weather was perfect. The food was so so. The quick of it. My wife had the lamb which was chewy and gristly. I had the fish which was fine save for the slimy skin which th chef should have removed. Nothing awful, just not very right. There was no wine list, so I ordered a Cote du Rnhone. 30 Euros and a bit overpriced for wine in Provence. There was no wine list. The TA 29% discount was not applied. I was confused by the check and said nothing. My French is lousy. All in all not great.

Tomato strawberry tartare starter, wow delicious. I am still dreaming of this perfect summer starter. Arrival snack of puff pastry and veggie melody, yes please three more! For my main cococette I had the veg option, another delightful selection of summer root vegetables, swimming in the perfectly spiced tomato broth. The staff was wonderful and actually very good looking, friendly and accommodating (to our non French speaking selfs). And I must not forget to mention "mamas" sweet potato and chocolate desert - holy amazingness of desert goodness!!! I have never tasted something more delightful!!

One of our favorites in Aix-en-Provence. I particularly enjoyed a refreshing and inventive summer starter of tomatoes, strawberries and basil; the cocottes (individual stew-like pots) are delicious. The mi-cuit chocolate-caramel is amazing. Lovely people and a charming setting on a small place. Reserve in busy seasons.

The food was not what we expected. It was good, but we thought it would be more. The plate, la cocotte, is really small. It is not worth the cost. Service was slow. The waiter was nice and smiling until we said we didn't want desert. Then, he just broght the bill without us asking for it and turned into a bad mood with us.
He also broght the wrong bill, without the discount we gain by reserving through the app. He had to do it again.
I wouldn't go back as the cost/benefit is not good. There as much better restaurants in Aix.

Hue Cocotte is a very cute, small restaurant (about 10 tables) with a rustic French ambiance. The owner was very nice and was able explain everything in English to us that was on the chalkboard menu for that evening. He obviously took a great deal of pride in the product. He also helped us select a bottle of wine that appealed to us. The food was prepared with fresh ingredients. We know this because everything was very good. But also, the next day we passed Hue Cocotte and saw the fresh ingredients for that evening's meal which had just been delivered and left inside the front door. We recommend and would return.

Value for money. The food was inventive with a touch of Asian influence. The signature dish called "Hue Cocottes" was the best in our meal. With many restaurants on the main street of Aix, this one hides in a small square, but worth looking for. The waiters/ owners were very friendly and tried to explain everything in English.
