About the restaurant Il Desco Bistrot

We really enjoyed Il Desco. Service was great, the waiter spoke very good English (I do try to speak Italian where it's helpful, but there was no need here), and the food was very good. We also enjoyed the ambiance - it's a small, cozy restaurant and relatively quiet. You should book ahead, as we did - we saw 2 or 3 other parties turned away (politely) because they had no reservations.

Very welcoming feeling when we entered the restaurant and friendly and efficient service throughout the meal. The server gave us very informed wine recommendations that matched very well with our dishes. I had the the special veal with a side salad which was excellent.

Super accommodating to my wife who has anaphylactic level allergies to lupin, tree nuts, and sulfites. Chef goes over the allergens and makes any needed adjustments to items. I generally dislike gluten free items myself, but we shared gluten free pasta and I could not tell the difference. The food was so fresh and the presentation was superb. My only complaint is that it took a bit of time, but it was well worth it.

We mixed this place with another place Hosteria Il Desco. This place in Via Camillo Benso Cavour was a mistake for us.
Disappointed by the touristic feeling and food that was not made by the order but earlier and just warmed up after ordering.

Excellent restaurant where each dish has a story behind it. The chef spent time to talk about where the food was sourced from. Fantastic selection of local wines which have an out of this world taste. Benne

Service wise staff was very diligent and helpful. Food wise, I was underwhelmed by rather overpriced starter which came with a rock hard old bread and main with salmon that was far from fresh and it was very very salty. I know understand that it is not easy to serve fresh fish during a hot summer day, but bread can't come as an excuse. Considering price to quality ratio, I would skip on this restaurant next time.

The food is excellent, cooked with passion and adapted to the season, using only fresh ingredients.
You can feel the owner's passion and care for customers. Wines are also very good for the price, and from small producers.
Will go there again when I return to Florence

My meal at Il Desco was probably the best one I've had so far on my Italian holiday. I absolutely loved it. The food and service was perfect. I went there due to having good options for vegetarian and gluten free meals, but I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. Delicious !!

Wonderful vegetarian options. The wine pairing with the food was excellent. Portions are generous so take that into consideration when ordering. The Tuscan lasanga was outstanding.

Spinach flan was just a lump of creamed spinach.
Pork was the driest & most overcooked that I've ever had.
Lasagna was tasteless.
Service & wine were great.
Skip it.
Restaurant
I saw your review here and on TripAdvisor, both very negatives.
I'm sorry if you didn't like the meal, maybe something went wrong on that evening...usually the lasagna and pork fillet are very appreciated from our guests, we make them fresh every day with ingredients of the utmost quality.
I hope to welcome you again in our place and maybe next time we will be able to satify you more.
Best regards

An exceptional meal. The location is unassuming, but don't be fooled. The food was fresh, deliciously prepared and very satisfying. The service was beautiful. I say this because the server was not only pleasant, but passionate and knowledgeable about the food and the wines. We were not disappointed with our choices or the recommendations offered after a few questions. We sat outside. My wife and I both started with the asparagus crepe. Beautifully prepared. Gas ted sublime. Was light and not filling as a first s set us up perfectly for our secundi's.... I had the roast beef, my wife had the veal. Both were superb. Each shaved thin in a delicious sauce. At our waiters suggestion, we matched the meal with an organic Chianti Classico from the hills of Sienna. It was perfect. The cheesecake for desert was magnificent. Not too sweet yet very satisfying. €81 all in including wine. My favourite meal in Florence so far (we are on day 4). I highly recommend.

We loved this place. A lot of the foos, including the olive oil, comes from the family's farm outside the city. The menu changes seasonally and while it isn't what a lot of Americans think of as true to the region, the food was very rrpresentativr, creative, fresh and delicious. There is also an excellent wine list with reasonably priced bottles and organic options. The staff was very knowledgeable, informative and spoke good English. The food definitely wowed us. We'd highly recommend and would return again.
