In San Frediano, incoronato dalla guida Lonely Planet come quartiere “più cool” del mondo, Matteo Fantini ha aperto qualche anno fa “Io Osteria Personale”. Un piccolo ristorante, 30 in totale i coperti, in cui Fantini crea e sperimenta ricette di cucina creativa e contemporanea.
In carta ci sono pochi piatti per ciascuna portata: una scelta fatta per garantire un'alta qualità e una cura maniacale di ogni pietanza. Il faro è la tradizione, non solo toscana ma italiana, che entra da “Io Osteria Personale” sulle gambe di tanti produttori locali le cui materie prime foraggiano ogni giorno la dispensa dello chef. La brigata, sei in tutto tra cucina e sala, è composta da giovani under 30. Una squadra dinamica e preparata che in questi anni ha reso il locale di borgo San Frediano uno dei più apprezzati d'Oltrarno.

Il menu segue le stagioni ma sono tanti ormai i piatti che si trovano in carta tutto l'anno perché divenuti simbolo del ristorante: ci sono i calamari con crema di patate al limone, capperi fritti e pesto di rucola, le tagliatelle con crudo di gamberi rossi, funghi di stagione e sesamo, il vitello tonnato croccante con puntarelle e limone e tra i dessert, tutti fatti in casa come le paste e il pane, la crema di cioccolato bianco e olio extravergine con granita di lavanda e gelatina al frutto della passione.
L'ottanta per cento dei piatti in carta è gluten free e non mancano le proposte vegetariane. La cantina, sempre curata da Fantini, conta 250 etichette tra vini italiani e francesi provenienti da piccole aziende.
Il locale occupa gli spazi di una vecchia salumeria. E, a dispetto del nome, è tutt'altro che un'osteria vecchia maniera. Tra il soffitto a cassettoni e i muri in pietra, con mattoncini bianchi, si apre uno spazio dalle linee semplici in cui il legno degli arredi e dei tavoli e il nero della lavagne ai muri conferisce un tocco di modernità che, insieme alla struttura d'epoca, costituisce quel mix di antico e moderno che costituisce il concept del locale.

It is great to see an innovative approach, but not all the dishes work as a whole. The starter and first courses were good, and were very tasty. The main (fish) was not a complete dish. There was essentially a piece of fish with some artichoke pieces. Good attempt, but at €40 I expected more and wanted to be more excited by the food. Wine list is good, but prices go up pretty fast. Service was friendly, but sometimes a little slow. There were long gaps between courses, and they were slow to clear. Not quite there yet.

Don’t miss this Michelin Guide restaurant!

We arrived before the scheduled time and were seated without delay. The decor is modern but still has an old-style charm, like the city. The waiters were smiling and friendly and we felt at home immediately.

We decided to order the 6-course tasting menu. Not only you can choose the composition of the menu but every guest gets its own plate instead of a central plate for sharing! The food was both beautiful an delightful. Our personal highlight was the tartar (the best I ever had), the tagliatelle (my god, the prawn....) and the crispy veal.

We highly recommend this sophisticated but not pretentious restaurant for a special night out.

Very good food. We opted for the six dish (any two starters, one first course, two mains and two desserts from the a la carte menu). My wife declared it to be one of the best meals she has ever eaten. The house wine (a Sardinian white) was very good - always a good sign of care being taken in everything they do. The restaurant is not big. Probably 32 covers at a stretch. People who turned up on spec were being turned away so booking is essential (we were ther on a Monday evening. This is modern cooking with local ingredients so don't expect it to be filled with locals (unless they are foodies of course!). We'd both happily eat there again.

Delicious food , very lightly prepared but still flavoursome. Friendly and attentive service. Despite the lovely food the restaurant was very relaxed and understated. All in all a lovely evening!

I had a wonderful birthday dinner at IO Osteria Personale. The food was flavorful and satiating. Nice ambience and atmosphere. Service was excellent. I highly recommend visiting for a meal.

After reading the reviews decided to try this as special birthday meal for two. We were not disappointed. Taster menu was brilliant and well worth the slight premium. Would recommend this place as a treat and something different. Staff were very helpful and welcoming.
