10/10This is Indian food elevated to a whole other level! Staff were extremely hospitable and went out of their way to accommodate our reservation and special dietary requirements. All meals extremely well balanced and tasty, especially the starters. Highly recommend :)

10/10I found this restaurant through The Fork and I'm really happy I did! It's an aesthetically pleasing place with really friendly service. The food is a bit on the pricier side for the cuisine but you are paying for the quality and it's well worth it! The Malai Kofta was super tasty. Would highly recommend!

10/10Just as superb as the first time ! This time we tried the smoked butter chicken, 24 hour marinated and skewered chicken, the cucumber salad, and the prawns - oh, and again the puri puri and kale entreés. Love the mango lassi. My 94-year-old Mum loved it, too. We'll be back again soon !

10/10Pleasant decor and friendly service. The menu has a good variety and all dishes had great flavours and quality. I had the crispy kale, lamp chops, skewered chicken (both meat dishes were tender and juicy), wild mushroom (nice flavour and consistency, but not very substantial), pudina parantha naan (it was fine, but not the best I have had) and gajar halwa for dessert (also good flavour, but a bit small). Overall the food is certainly recommended. I was lucky enough to be able to use a discount from The Fork Festival, which provided great value, but otherwise I would have found the prices a bit on the high side, especially considering the undesirable 15% weekend surcharge.

8/10There seems to be a new wave of modern Indian restaurants popping up over Melbourne (think Ish in Gertrude Street) that may be trying to mount a challenge to Tonka. At Kahaani, we started with the crispy kale chaat which is a must try (our favourite dish by far!) and the charred cauliflower which was interesting. For mains we had the butter chicken with garlic naan’s and basmati rice. The butter chicken was nice enough but we didn’t detect any smoky flavour as the menu claimed. The serving size of the butter chicken was questionable and many reviews online seem to have issue with the portion sizes at Kahaani. Paying $29 for a curry you expect a generous portion. Sure, we were on a Fork deal but it was still way too small. The interior of Kahaani is nice but the music was a bit too loud for easy convo. Finally, the bathrooms didn’t appear to have been cleaned from the night before. We had an early dinner on a Saturday night and both men’s and women’s bathrooms were a bit worse for wear. This shouldn’t be the case at a restaurant that’s trying to position itself in this price bracket. Also note that there’s a 15% surcharge on weekends along with credit card charges.

7/10The food was good but the portion sizes are really small. For two people we ordered a Reshmi tikka, malai kofta, pudina naan and biryani and we still weren't sufficiently full. For the price of each dish they don't serve enough quantity

10/10When it all tastes so incredible that you can’t decide choosing a set menu is the way to go and best value. Enjoyed the Konkan fish curry tonight which engages all your senses. Service was lovely as usual.

10/10For the connoisseur of fine dining this is the place. This visit I especially enjoyed the pani puri and gulab jamun. Service top class as always.

10/10The food was so delicious, I would highly recommend Kahaani. Every dish we ordered was mouth watering. The chai latte was really tasty and enjoyable. The staff went above and beyond to ensure we were looked after. Thanks so much for a truly delicious dinner.

8.5/10Great place for upscale Indian dining. Portion rather small for the price. Again, if you want a fancy Indian dinner, this’s a good place.

8.5/10Food was fantastic and service was good. However we felt that a 15% surcharge on a not-busy Saturday night (with only manager, 1 server and 1 cook) was a bit too much. Amazing and very delicious food, however $40 per person for Indian food is far too expensive, not matter how fancy it is.

Thank you for your review. I am glad you enjoyed your dinner. Just wanted to put it out there - Indian restaurants serving Indian food still have to pay - Same wages - Same rent - Same outgoings we don't get special discount on electricity, gas or water either. :)

10/10As ever, great food and great service. For some reason I have to keep typing until we reach 120 characters. Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why?

4/10I usually give full star reviews but unfortunately Kahaani was a huge let down, especially if you’re paying that sort of premium dining price. We ordered the kebab chicken for $18 and it was serve on 1 skewer, probably 5 bites at most.. the shocking bit were some parts were pink and uncooked. We informed the waiter and she justified that its the nature of thigh meat. As for the butter chicken dish that was $28, again only 5 pcs of chicken at most, it was just overpriced. We ordered 1 starter, 2 mains and 2 naans, portion was not enough for 2 people even.
