Great experience and lovely service! The waiter was very attentive and we all had the 3-course menu which was delicious and good size servings. The monkfish dish was a personal favorite!

Nice but overpriced restaurant inside the Intra Muros of St Malo.
The tuna tartare was very good, the duck breast and red mullet good, the vegetable menu and vegetable courses were small and way overpriced.

The downstairs room is lovely with stone walls and large windows. We had a perfect round table for 4 and we all ordered one of the 3 course menus including the wine pairings. Everyone ate every bite of every course! All were delicious and beautifully presented. The wines were great too! An excellent evening with friends!

This is a wonderful restaurant. Partly because we loved it the first time we went and partly (admittedly) because so many Saint-Malo restaurants close in late June, we went twice in three evenings. We certainly weren't disappointed. We tried different entrees, plats, and desserts--and thus different wine pairings--and everything we ate and drank was truly delicious. The service is also very friendly and exact. The owner of our small hotel called the restaurant "super" and "extra." It really is. Merci!

Everything was outstanding: the 30 E menu (we chose six different dishes, all delicious), the wine pairings, the beautiful upstairs room, and the friendly, attentive server.


I would recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting a special meal in Saint-Malo, and if I lived nearby, it would become one of my top go-to special-occasion places.

This is an absolutely brilliant place. Great atmosphere, lovely courteous staff and the food is delicious. My husband wasn’t hugely impressed by the pork, but as he doesn’t eat fish or duck , he was a bit restricted. But overall the whole meal was great and beautiful to look at too! Would highly recommend

We had a delicious and fun experience at L’Absinthe! We were welcomed from the moment we stepped inside the lovely old building and were ushered to the beautiful stone-walled room downstairs where it was quiet and we were given a choice of tables. The menu and wine list were fairly extensive and it was hard to choose. My crab starter and my husband’s foie gras were delicious and looked very appealing. For the main we both had the piglet which was nicely surrounded by a variety of tasty vegetables. Very unusual in our French dining, and very good. Our Ardèche rose, Lirac was delicious as was my champagne to start. Our efficient server guided us to a scrumptious and beautiful chocolate dessert with fruit and creme. One of our best meals in France. The restaurant was very busy with French diners and service was excellent! Wish we could return.

Great food with an emphasis on the innovative use of fresh local ingredients. Excellent service, staff were very accommodating of dietary requests. Unusually for Saint Malo they have a separate vegetarian menu which means that options for vegetarians go beyond the usual soup and salad

A fabulous meal, brilliant food and fairly good service until, after being served desert, we were left, alone ignored by the staff and unable to attract anyone's attention, to order coffee, or anything. After 20 minutes waiting we searched out a staff member, paid and left.
We wondered if we might have done something wrong for the staff to have deserted us.
A poor end to an exellemt meal.
