About the restaurant L'arcimboldo

I booked this after looking at Trip advisor comments. We were not disappointed. Lovely fresh starter, Al dente pasta for main and yummy dessert. Highly recommended!

The service and food and ambience were all excellent. The owner realised at the end of our evening it was my Birthday and offered us both a drink on the house.

Would definitely recommend to friends visiting Bologna.

Staff friendly and knowledgeable of the menu and wine list. Spoke English so great (as our Italian is non-existent). Husband enjoyed his 50th meal.

L'Arcimboldo takes its name from Giuseppe Arcimboldo, the 16th Century Italian painter who incorporated fruits, vegetables and even fish in his colourful portraits of imaginary people. The restaurant's aim is use artistry in its cooking and it certainly succeeds. Whether you have traditional Bolognese dishes like the tortellini in brodo or the tagliatelle with ragu, or more contemporary fare like the egg cooked at low temperature, accompanied by wilted spinach and a very light whipped ricotta cream flavoured with saffron, or the main consisting of a succulent, slow-cooked rabbit medallion served with Jerusalem artichokes and a cream of fresh peas, you will be very pleased with your choices. To accompany the food, we chose a very satisfying bio Barbera for under 20€. Desserts are light and delicious and not the customary Italian fare. Daniele, the head chef and owner, is 28 years old and very talented. His father, Claudio, the head waiter, is smart, funny and interesting to talk to, if you speak some Italian.

Terrific food, wine and service., really helpful and attentive. Room a little too well lit, so not that romantic a setting but having been to restaurants where you cannot see your food was more than happy!

I booked a table for 4 friends who were in Bologna for the weekend to enjoy the local food. L'arcimboldo surpassed our expectations. I eat out in London fairly regularly so am sometimes a bit spoilt. I wanted something that felt 'local'. On first impressions I wasn't 100% sure I had booked well - I got it wrong. We had a fantastic meal and the service was excellent. Top marks from four 'foodie' Brits.
I would highly recommend this place.
