About the restaurant L'Epicerie d'Aix en Provence

Lovely setting in quiet square by fountain. Friendly service, reasonable prices and very good food.

The gambas of the entrée were delicious. But my salad contained the same stick of gambas!
Unfortunately the espadon was a bit dry.
I have suggested the waiter, that he should remark that the ordered entrée and de plat principal were (partially) quite similar.
For the chef cook: be alert as far as it concerns the cooking time of fish.
Very friendly: after our remarks the waiter offerd us a desert.

I've been wanting to try this restaurant for a long time (discovered while exploring the old quarter during an earlier trip to Aix-en-Provence). The location is really perfect, a tiny, quiet and beautiful square with its own fountain, Rosé cooling in the fountain's spray. a dozen tables, quiet, cozy. The food was great (tempura prawns, a beautiful special of the day, and crispy papya with lemon sorbet for dessert.) The service was welcoming, helpful and efficient (our waitresses spoke perfect English). The wine menu solid and with a selection of good choices ranging from very affordable to very special. We were not dissappointed and will surely return again and again.

Despite the fact that we'd taken the trouble to book in advance, having remembered the restaurant favourably from last year, we had to wait an hour before we were served ( 30 mins to be seated, while new arrivals were seated before us) and even then were given a table in the sun despite having requested one next to the fountain in the shade. The food was good, though expensive (for which we were prepared) but if we ever go again we won't pre-book as it seemed to count against us.

The food did not impresse me. The noix de Saint Jacques could be better served (bigger portion). Good wine menu and ok service.
