the great: excellent/central location, atmosphere super authentic, the space is small and exudes history and sense of old-world elegance; two dishes on the five course tasting menu were special and delicious (foi gras especially); we were too adults and one pre-schooler (we ordered two degustastion menus 50 euros each and a plate of chicken was suggested for the child) and they comped us on our child's meal; the desert was yummy

The good: the presentation was solid, the service had pretty good tempo; our waiter was out of central casting and spoke English although in hushed, sometimes indecipherable tones

Room for improvement: several dishes were unnecessarily salted beyond the pale; the use of foam in many instances seemed a bit old-hat

Small,tradional,,slightly quirky
Menu good but restricted
Doesn't seem to cater to food issues
We ordered a specific wine but were told it was too strong for the dishes

The food, service and ambience at L'Etage was perfect. We had the tasting menu which the chef adjusted to accommodate our preference not to eat veal.
We would thoroughly recommend the restaurant.

The restaurant was small but comfortable. The waiter was friendly, funny and personable. We were made to feel incredibly welcome. The food was fantastic without exception and very reasonably priced considering the incredibly high quality.
The only regret I had was that it is tucked away on the second floor of the building and wasn't that busy when we were there. It is defintely a great find but they suffer a little not being as easy for passing foot traffic to find.

We have dined extensively in France over the course of 6 trips to this country. This is our first visit to Lyon. Our dinner at L'Etage is one of the very BEST that we've had in all of France! We had the Classique meal - duck foi gras with asparagus, and lamb for the main dish. The dessert was an ice cream parfait AND bavarois with rhubarb. Everything was exquisitely prepared! What wine list, although small, was well chosen. I would HIGHLY recommend this restaurant,

Excellent food on a very welcoming and cozy environment ! The tasting menu was inventive and gave you a broad sample of the chefs abilities . The host who was also our waiter had a fantastic sense of humor and kept a good pace with the food. He was knowledgeable about wine pairings as well as the dish ingredients. We thouroughly enjoyed our dinner!!

Hard to find, but well worth the effort. Only 8 tables. Tasting menu was delicious with lots of variety. Great service from the only waiter.

Tiny restaurant of 8 tables in the living room of a converted 2nd floor residence. Two man show: chef and waiter. The charming waiter with exaggerated mustache and English carefully calculated to be just as good barely as you need it, has been subtly letting people know you are in his home for 20 years. He entertains with tiny details of your dishes and stories of famous patrons who have dined at your table (political figures' names omitted because they book the whole place to meet with their girlfriends). You can only choose a 45 EUR classic menu (3 possible entrees + 3 mains) OR a 50 EUR tasting, but there is a good chance one of the dishes will be the best version of that you have ever had (for me the foie gras, for my business associate the sea scallops). Book in advance. My experience surpassed many of the <forbidden tire company> starred places I’ve been, but being so tiny and a little quirky, I don't think they'll ever get the star they deserve, and that is good for me. Keep it quiet. I'm coming back.

A little difficult to find until we learnt that it was on the second floor and entry was through a small grey door off the square. Small, intimate setting. Absolutely worth the effort.

Ordered the 5 course menu and enjoyed the food introduced by the very dry witted waiter, wine was good and well priced. the restaurant is on the 2nd floor and only a door from the square makes it hard to find. If not for tripadvisor I would have missed out on the experience. Worth the visit

Jean Claude was so friendly to explain all the menu in English as he brought the dishes. We had the 6 course tasting menu and it was fantastic. The menu is strong on large portions of meat, so go prepared to get a huge portioned meal.

We were warmly welcomed at the top of the narrow staircase and lead to a lovely table by the window overlooking the square. We chose from the a la carte menu. The dishes were all beautifully presented and delicious. The chef is English and ingredients included lamb from Kent, which surprised us as we had expected local food, but it was delicious. The dessert of a strawberry and rhubarb bavarois was to die for, very light and fresh tasting. We left feeling very satisfied but not having eaten too much, as can happen after eating the traditional Lyonnaise food.
