About the restaurant Lá ao Fundo

We’ve eaten here already multiple times and will return for sure! Best to book in advance. Always nice to sit on the terrace. My favorite dish is caril de camarão

Re-seating at 10.30 to gone 11pm and having to bring more tables outside... full at a time when most around were long shut. A great atmosphere. Older lady made clear her disgust at more customers! The owner and others rapidly rectified. Most staff friendly and owner, young male waiter, and Mozambique waitress very welcoming.

Never got an amuse unlike other tables. Sad. The pork dish was only ok and as would be expected from other restaurants nearby. The dishes I have had other times have been much better, and all that came to others around looked much better. Bad choice will go back to try other dishes.

Great atmosphere.

Interesting good value food. Nice to have something different from the normal in this tourist area.

I apologise to the male waiter that I disturbed his day by entering his premises.... there must be other jobs where he never has to see customers?? Served fine just did not seem to want to be there.....

Anyhow the Female staff are very friendly..... and all the staff are efficient (even Mr Grumphy - but do cheer up as you have a lovely place)

Do go the food is lovely.

This restaurant serves really good colonial Portuguese food. We had the meat samosas followed by Mozambique prawn curry and both dishes were superb. We enjoyed it so much that we’ve booked again!

Helpful staff, menu in English. Happy to serve tap water. Good value for money. We were possibly the only tourists there on a Saturday night.

Located on a quiet and picturesque street next to the fort, eating outside was calm and enjoyable. Waiters very attentive. We ate the chicken marsala, good but a bit bland, and the chicken Mozambique, better but the chicken was over done and it would be nice if it was served with a mango chutney to off set the spiciness of the dish. Good size portions and reasonable prices. Would go hear again but try other food.

I booked the restaurant that day only to find that our table was on the street. They managed to put a table inside but very close to another table already occupied. I found the service overall a bit 'full on' and too fussy. My starter of breaded prawns was tasty when I asked for some Piri piri sauce. My main course was the veal au Fundo. Problem was that the meat was virtually raw having asked for medium rare. Although they were quick to bring another steak it spoilt the meal as it put a bad feeling to my birthday meal. The sauce with was awful - it tasted of bitter red wine and port. Veg was well cooked. The other two dishes - picanha on a stone ( except there was no stone)! and the octopus were fine. Overall not my best meal out in a restaurant in madeira.
