About the restaurant La Barca del Salamanca

Have been here before several times, it seems the quality and attention to detail has really dropped.

The service was wonderful. In addition to our ordered meal the restaurant gave a few delightful extras. The servings were generous. On the seafood plate the fish was better than the shellfish. Dessert was fabulous. When we arrived at 7pm, early for Spaniard’s, this large restaurant was almost empty. But within an hour it filled, including with some large groups.

Overpriced, four shrimp cost eighty euros. The service was good but the food was way overpriced. They don’t have the fix price on the menu instead they showed you in the back with the fresh fish and you never know the price until you saw the check

Seefood was really exelent, the same about the steak - absolutely no complains. This is seafood restaurant. Yes they have number of steak, chiken, but restaurant is not about it.
Service - ok, but there are so a lot of peoples, so they must to “spin like verbs“ and some times you feel like in the factory. I’m there 3 times during 6 years and what are good to say - they maintain the food quality in same level.

I can not recommend the restaurant. Expensive and not clean. Only for the tourists they didn’t like a good food, just eat because they are hungry. The water ask for tip we give nothing because the wine was not good and the steak was not good, I hat shrimps and they are not good.

The paella was not good, the rice was undercooked and the fish was over cooked. Our waiter spoke very fast and basically ordered for us. He brought over two different things without asking us for an appetizer that appeared to be free but then charged us $25 on the bill. I wouldn’t not recommend and would not go back

Expensive. The waiters didn’t really wait for us to take our time with the menu. They started suggesting things and telling us what we would like. It was frustrating to not be listened to. The food was good but honestly I wouldn’t go back and I suggest you take your time with the menu and don’t let the waiters push you around.

The fresh fish was of the highest quality, sure...but even for that, FAR TOO EXPENSIVE. With a bit of wine for two and what was essentially an appetizer (a bit of shellfish) - a bill for 240 Euros. (one bottle of the most reasonable white)
Our starter was a bit of Octopus - followed by our meal directly afterward - even though the waiter had asked us if we would like to wait, and we had said yes - we would like time.
The food was taken away - despite us attempting to keep it anyway, as we knew it would be held warm instead of fresh. an hour later - we had to ask several times to have it returned...and yes - it had been held under lights....
Perhaps it was a mistake to order the market fresh fish - I do not know...but for this price, I would expect a meal and an atmosphere at a much higher level of quality. Everything was OK...but not OK for this price.....
Perhaps this is normal for such a tourist town - but even a fine seafood meal in Venice doesn't cost this much.

The food items are good - (paella [good, but surpassed by Pez Vela's], bread with garlic aioli [which we didn't ask for and were charged for - I will return for just this because it was THAT good], [shots of rum with accompanying pieces of their signature yellow crumb cake which we didn't ask for but were NOT charged for, which made up for the bread, hahah) were all incredible. The corner window table made the dining experience even better.

What kind of killed the mood was the photographer (who innocently requested to take our photo for their website, but then tried to sell us the misshaped physical photo - which we bought out of guilt) and the live music (lovely, but then the guy pulled an NYC styled subway panhandling move).

We're VERY generous tippers - and usually just do it whenever we can, especially if it's deserved, but I'd advise to have your staff be a bit more subtle when asking for tip. No need to put customers in an awkward situation when they're just trying to enjoy a romantic meal. =/

Take your time eventhough the waiter seems to rush you a bit. The fresh fish not only tastes great, but looks amazing as well (you can choose from the menu or from the real fish on ice in the back of the restaurant). Fair prices for such great fish and seafood.
