About the restaurant La Petite Tonnelle

Welcome to the restaurant 'La Petite Tonnelle' located in the village of Beynac- Cezenac Dordogne, one of the most beautiful villages of France.

In our charming restaurant, you will discover and enjoy a cuisine between tradition and travel and here the charm of old stones is like nowhere else ...
The Perigord region is in the spotlight with its 'Périgord salad' or homemade duck foie gras served with figs marmelade. Fresh labelised products are also on our card : chops of veal from Limousin or lamb of Quercy with its morels cream .

We also offer you to taste delicious fishes such as homemade smoked salmon, with its wazabi sauce, back of roasted cod , with minced garlic deglazed with sherry vinegar . Such a taste and visual delight...

Fantastic little restaurant with beautifully presented and flavoursome food. One of the best restaurants in relation to the food, service and atmosphere sine coming to France. Everything was fresh and just top quality food. Recommended!

Second visit to La Tonnelle and it was certainly a tale of two cities. Our first visit was great this one not. I noticed that the lady who previously was at front of house was not in and I can only assume she runs a tight ship but without her said ship sinks. We made a reservation through La Fork but they hadn’t noted it down saying we should have phoned. In my opinion they shouldn’t take bookings through a system they’re not constantly checking. One of the waitresses was a little brusque - telling us that she didn’t want us speaking French. The order was taken quickly and first course promptly arrived - the food was not so good this time with the risotto being a tad over cooked. Plates cleared and second course duly arrived. Again not as good as last time. However our plates remained in front of us for a staggering 40 minutes. Our waitress had disappeared off the face and the other seemed to only want to wait on her own tables. In the end we upped and left to take the children to another restaurant for dessert. If this had been my first visit it also would have been my last as well. Maybe check if the lady at the front of house is working. If not avoid.

A lovely family meal with warm, friendly and attentive staff. The prawn risotto was really tasty and the cod Devine. The duck and lamb mains were enjoyed by the rest of the family. As for puds the creme brûlée was demolished whilst the children enjoyed the chocolate cake. Both the food and wine were reasonably priced and the portions more than generous.

The food is good. Not excellent but good. The service is a bit chaotic. It can be funny at times. If you are patient than it won't bother you too much

Beautiful french restaurant in the most perfect setting.
Difficult if you don’t speak any french but we managed to get there.
Although there wasn’t a kids menu they were very good, when we asked, and did the kids salmon and veg with mashed potatoes followed by ice cream so they were happy too
The food was exquisite and the wine flowed too
Great evening

I was quite surprised that La Petite Tonnelle has not received higher ratings to date. This is by no means your ordinary provincial French restaurant. The chef is exceptionally creative and provides flavor combinations that are at the frontiers of taste. For example, I ordered the Canelloni á Saumon Fume expecting the usual Italian style preparation for this entree. Instead, I received a combination of pate, smoked salmon and a granité of Monbazillac with a very understated noodle. The granité of Monbazillac was memorable and provided a unique take on a classic dish. The service was elegant, helpful, and understated. I should also note the exquisite interior that makes creative use of the local stone and its various colors. A superb experience. Very much recommended.

Time and again, we return to here whether we bring our friends visiting from overseas or just to enjoy on our own. The staff are always accomodating and very professional. The food is deliciously fresh and cooked just the way you like it. The chef takes great care in his dishes. It is a delightful restaurant.
