The restaurant itself was lovely and the food delicious, but the service was abysmal! We are used to French service, but even by the usual grumpy standards, this restaurant was the worst I’ve eaten in.
We were ‘seated’ by being pointed to a table and noticed that French customers were served quickly, efficiently and with a smile and the staff seemed very attentive...towards the French. We, however, were given English menus (without asking & which we didn’t need) and then ignored, until we called someone over to take our order (which the French-only speaking waitress couldn’t understand ????????‍♀️). We had to ask them to clear our plates each time, call someone if we wanted to order extra drinks etc and then when we asked for the bill, just had a thumb directed at a till, which we took to mean we had to stand up to pay.
There was no option to give an electronic tip and although I had no cash, I wouldn’t have left one anyway. Shame, as the food was fab, but we won’t be going back.

The view from the balcony promised much for the evening. Our welcome was somewhat perfunctory- something we are less used to in France than was once the case. The service was efficient if somewhat clinical and without warm engagement. The starter and mains were tasty and quite generous in portion size. The frites were unnecessarily oily so somewhat soggy. Our desserts of lemon meringue pie came with a soggy topping of meringue- too long in a fridge? The bill was €148 for 2 including a nice bottle of Chablis so not cheap. I do wonder however why so many restaurants in France continue to serve up the same old dishes that my Grandfather would have ordered when he was living in France in the 1950’s. Aren’t the chefs sick and tired of cooking the same old thing and don’t they know that there has been a revolution in food over the last 30 years. I live for much of the year in the new world and as much as I adore so much of the old in France, I fear it’s restaurants are becoming as out of date as Minitel- ie once innovative but now obsolete. I fear la Villa des Fleurs restaurant suffers from this. Same old food on a square plate does not make this contemporary cuisine. It didn’t when the square plates first appeared in the 90s and it certainly doesn’t now!
