What means a Michelin Star for a restaurant? Or the corollary question: How is a Michelin Star obtained? The first thing you notice are the elevated prices, more than twice the already elevated prices of the "down to earth" Dutch restaurants. But you get something back for that in Restaurant Latour. A richly appointed restaurant with soothing atmosphere, very polite and correct waiters, who enhance the sumptuous atmosphere even more with their soft spoken explanations of the wines and the food. And a never ending stream of interesting and tasty appetizers, before and in between the three courses of the meal. In the appetizers, the starter, the main course and the dessert the special attention to the combination of (sometimes unexpected) flavours was very apparent, the most important issue to earn a Michelin Star. Generally speaking, the ambiance and service were perfect, the food tasty and interesting and the prices on Michelin level. The only disappointment was the final espresso. It have to report that even in this high level restaurant the espresso was not more than a small cup of coffee, served in a non-preheated cup. This can be done better. Fortunately, the chocolates served with the coffee were delicious. Restaurant Latour is situated on the first floor of Hotel "Huis ter Duin". Parking is possible on the large private hotel car park. Parking fee is waived for restaurant guests. I can recommend Restaurant Latour in particular for special occasions, because of the soothing atmosphere, perfect service and tasty and interesting food combinations, but don't forget a well filled wallet.
