Best Italian food I've had in all of Italy. I've been here 10yrs ago, and finally brought my kids to try the place I've always told them about. Fresh pasta w/ bolognese, to the oso bucco, to the veal cutlets.....and not to mention the DESSERTS! Canolis filling is amazing.

On arriving we were asked if we would like to sit inside or out and we choose outside.

However this meant that we were packed in-between 2 other sets of diners, which made it quite uncomfortable.

We order our food and drinks expecting the drinks to come before the meal, however we received our food and about 5 mins later our drinks arrived.

Not impressed with the food and service or atmosphere, we asked for the bill, we paid in cash and the waiter took off never to return with the change.

We have eaten in other restaurants and will return but le grotte is not one avoid if you can.

I was recommended this restaurant by one of my students who often travels to Rome for business. However, I was treated like a burden. I look pretty young and I got the full student treatment, as well as the tourist one. Not only did we order 15 minutes before the couple sat next to us but our starter arrived by the time they had finished their main meal. To add the experience they tried to charge us for two desserts which we never ordered. I Couldn't believe it. I was completely disappointed as I now live in Italy, I've come to know weather a restaurant wants to welcome you to a true Italian experience or the full blown tourist pain in the ass. If you're a business man by all means head here, if not, don't get in the way.
