I knew this restaurant already, and it is in an excellent location. There was an art expo at the Chateau opposite, so was a good day out. I booked my table via The Fork, because the owners site said there was no availability for two months! Everything was fine, apart from....if you book with The Fork you have to go à la carte, i.e. cannot take advantage of the €14 menu de jour. Even if you ask for it! So, consequently, we ordered à la carte, and it cost us €105 for two, for two courses. We did have a glass of wine each with our starter and a bottle of average priced wine with the main (€24). It was a bit of a shock to have to go à la carte at lunchtime. The expense unexpected. Having said that, we enjoyed our food and wine and the ambiance was good. Small, cozy restaurant. Just felt we were taken advantage of.
So pleased we finally tried this local restaurant, warm friendly service and very knowledgeable on the local wines. The menu was varied and it was nice to see some good fish dishes, my turbot in saffron sauce was cooked perfectly. A mouth watering desert menu spoiled us for choice but the creme brûlée came out on top. This is one of those restaurants that we will happily return to.
we were told that we could not have the menu du jour because we had booked via the fork. this was not made clear on the website and with 5 children in our group we had not planned to feed them a la carte
Excellent food. Excellent service. An absolute gem of a find
Delicious meal in a lovely setting.
The food was good although a little bit limited
Lovely tasty relaxed meal on shady terrace. We will be back!
Profiteroles ordered in advance were disappointing. Even the creme brûlée was not right. Place wasn't that full but there were delays between courses which were quite long. Overall, great ambience but food not quite what we paid for!
The food is excellent. Traditional food with generous size, good price, and personal service. They pride themselves and their quality is consistent. Can't miss, if you are in the area.
Really friendly and helpful "front of house" and meat was cooked to perfection. To be recommended!
The good was fab, swimming snails were superb and the duck was also fantastic. The chef made frequent trips to check everything was as expected and his wife, who was waiting tables both were very pleasant. We will definitely be going back and would highly recommend it.
Have visited the Lion d'Or each time we have been in Saussignac and have never been disappointed. Good service and the best lamb in the area. Thank You
