About the restaurant Madragoa Café

Starter portion is a little bit small, but it’s for diner, should not eat too much before sleeping, so it’s good. The host is very friendly, she can explain the menu in many languages

We were so embarrassed, cause the server guy kept making errors. ( As we are not portuguese, not sure it’s just a ‘mistake’.) It took more than an hour until get our right order.

Food was delicious- we had the sardine appetizer - several orders of the prawns (owner offered to shell them for us)- and several orders of the clams - also some sausages- all shared. Authentic and fresh. One of our best experiences in Lisbon.

Celebrated my wife's birthday. Madragoa Cafe was spectacular, absolutely top notch. Flawless service from the entire three person staff. The owner/chef Christina sat down and explained the entire menu to us. We had the charcuterie board to start which was entirely Portuguese meats and cheeses - probably the best we've ever had, definitely up there. A bottle of red wine of her recommendation which was great. For an entree we had the fish stew for one person which was a wonderful taste of traditional Portuguese seafood. Espresso. A cake dish of an orange eggy cake and another wafter cake topped with lemon whipped cream that she "just whipped up". White and red port. We were there for over three hours, loved every minute of it, felt right at home. Regrettably, we couldn't finish the wines; it was just too much. We're going to go back and try some other dishes.

The service was great! The food though, was good, but nothing special. Their steak was chewy, wheres the cataplana was really good.

Chef Christina greeted my husband and me warmly. I showed her a list of some of the food we'd like to try and after that, she said she would bring out dishes based on our preference. Local sparkling wine, simply delicious food and a wonderful host helped make every bite enjoyable. And, the vinho (2 bottles) did not disappoint. The meal ended with lemon mousse dessert (Christina's suggestion) - reminded me of lemon meringue. We HIGHLY recommend for those wanting authentic Portuguese food and fab service.

The food was very tasty and fresh, and the wine suggested by the chef was great! However, the staff seemed to be having a slow day, as it took them almost 50 minutes to bring my wine and starter pate. I recommend it for the good food, but make sure to ask the chef if it seems to be taking too long!
