About the restaurant Mateu

Always a relief when we find that the table has been booked and that we were expected. We were made to feel welcome and treated to some patient and understanding service. To me the restaurant was like the paella not fussy or dressed up but subtle with a excellent taste and a satisfying warmth.

I wouldn't go back. The eel stew was wonderful, but the traditional Valencia paella was disappointing. Maybe because we're tourists that this restaurant would treat us with a paella with chicken and duck wings and a piece of rabbit neck. It's sad to say, when your partner says that you make a better paella than this restaurant. I was tempted to ask the regular Spanish guests what pieces of meat they had in their paella.
