About the restaurant ML Restaurant

Exciting mix of tradition and modernism

Who wants to eat particularly in the city of Haarlem is more than welcome to Restaurant ML. It's a restaurant with a French international cuisine, the perfect place for a gourmet dinner. Mark Gratama and Liane Grootveld close the doors after 3.5 years in the former building in the Long Veerstraat 4.

The staff was welcoming & the service was superb. The dishes sound simple, but they were elevated to another level with complex ingredients & meticulous plating. Well balanced & tasteful food. A must visit place in Haarlem.

I invited my little brother and my sister in law for a Christmas dinner at ML. We were not disappointed. We chose the 5 course menu. Every dish was a surprise to our taste buds. Just wow. Presentation was pretty. 2 dishes really stood out: the starter and the desert. The combination of ingredients and textures were so unusual. Wines were really good and complimented the dishes (tip: the Champagne was delicious).

While service was very friendly and attentive I have to say that serving across the table and spilling water when filing our glasses shouldn't happen in such a high standard restaurant. Having said that, I am not complaining and we came out with a very very positive and delicious dinner experience.

An amazing meal. The staff was extremely accommodating and friendly. We added another person at the last minute and they were happy to bring a chair and place setting. Every course was delicious.

High quality ingredients and pleasant surroundings were let down by third rate service. Waiters seemed intent on galloping noisily around while barking at foreign guests (who actually speak Dutch -YES we do exist!!) in far from perfect English. This was exemplified by their insistence on calling the menu the card. Food was fussy and little effort was made to balance textures. Guests were actively discouraged from eating "A la Carte" and the amuse-bouche were brought before one had a chance to open let alone read the menu.

This was such a great experience. We had lunch in the garden where we got served a 4 course lunch for 50 euros. Before we got to see the menu there were three amuses served that promised for more. The price/quality is great. The food was really good, the only comment at our table was that it lacked a bit of acidity when it came to fish/shellfish courses. The plates are all very pretty in sophisticated in their presentation.
There is nothing to complain about when it comes to the food.
We also had the most lovely service. The woman responsible for our table had a feeling to balance the service expected in a Micheline starred restaurant and an informal manner that fitted us perfectly.
A good sign is that we spent 3,5 hours there for lunch!
I more than recommend this restaurant.
