About the restaurant Monjul

"AT THE CENTER OF MARAIS - Paris 4th, inventive cuisine lovers are found at Monjul. A pretty setting with soft colors, exposed stone walls and intimate lighting, this restaurant has everything going for it.

CULINARY MIXTURE - The chef Julien Agobert established his expertise in the Parisian palaces but also on the island of beauty, and in the South of Spain. He offers colorful dishes, flavors and textures inspired by his experience. Seafood and fish, tajine or gazpacho, carpaccio of veal or salmon stuffed with peanuts... This chef is resourceful!

AMAZED - Monjul is the ideal place to surprise your friends or finally convince your lady. The service is attentive and always good-humored. A choice that is both fun and surprising."

My 2nd visit to this restaurant. Welcome and ambiance very nice. My starter was light and fresh but the beetroot chips were just hard and flavourless - a pity. Main course duck - meat had a good flavour if a little tough and over-salted for my taste. I was looking forward to my dessert - camembert macaron. The taste was excellent, but totally let down by the texture of the macaron, which was heavy and very chewy. Not like any other macaron i have ever eaten. Overall, a pleasant evening, but while all the dishes looked lovely, they sometimes lacked finesse in flavour and texture.

The parsnip and celery soup was salty and lukewarm and the skirt steak was tough and only three little pieces. The ravioli was not hot either. The duck confit was very nice and the grapefruit tart was lovely. Service was so so.

Innovative, refined dishes that blend surprising flavours/taste (the beef tartare is amazing). The set menu gives a really good value for money. Great service, english-speaker-friendly. Nice cosy atmosphere. We had a great moment at Monjul and I will definitely go back! This is the kind of restaurant that you leave with a big smile on your face. Just be aware that it's modern cuisine, so the portion are small (if you are a big eater like me you will probably still be hungry ;))
Restaurant
Thank you very much Jerome for your handsome post.
Nice comment about big eaters, on the lunch, for 22,50€, you should precise it at your order to get biger portions ;) we know, we are too :) Now you know the « lunch trick » for your next visit. Do you know that on evening, you can choose? Different menu?

The food was really good. The choices are not very broad. I would have liked vegetarian food. It is beautifully presented and the service was friendly.

Revisit very disappointing. Why serve though chewey meat labeled fillet? The fillet dish came with large french fries which were dry and parmesan potato bake even drier. The appetizer with egg we loved last time was served with eggs cold. Could hardly believe it. There are only two guys serving and taking orders. The guy with the light hair was extremely nervous runnjng around back and forth the whole time. We had to ask for the obvious: spoon is needed to eat the appetizer, steak knives needed for steaks. He brought the bread half way into the meal.
The place was not full on a Friday night. Not surprised.
