7.5/10Lovely casual restaurant with delicious food. Starters are stronger than the mains. The mains lacked seasoning. The barramundi we had wasn't great. The starters and snacks were stellar. Service was a bit hit and miss. Felt like we were ignored for the first 20 min of arrival and had to call staff to place order. Despite this, I would come back again for a lunch.

9/10I had been here a few years ago and it was lovely both times, but this time the menu was even fancier and for a picky friend it was tricky to find something she would like. It was also more pricy than I had recalled, particularly with the wine prices.

10/10Absolutely delicious food! Highly recommend the compte custard and taramasalata crumpets. Lamb rump and steak were also incredible.

9/10Delicious food and great service. It is pricy/the portions aren’t massive, but some really delicious flavours and love the focus on local ingredients.

7.5/10The food was delicious but very expensive for 'share' plates even when you had the entire share plate to yourself! Even with the discount it wasn't value for money.

4.5/10None of us enjoyed the food served. We ordered the tasting set menu and none of the course, I’d say, deserve the prices they were charged. As of the mains, the sauce and the fish d didn’t go well together. For steak, it was very disappointing. It tasted like it was not freshly cut but thawed from frozen packs. And the sauce made it worse. A 30 dollar steak would even has better taste.

7/10We have been to this great little place many times in the past, and recommended it to others too.. however this time felt different. Whilst the food was good, thought the octopus was a little tough, the pork neck was divine as was the custard.. the service was quite offhand, and not much in the way of a smile to be seen.. shame, they must have had an off day, but it really impacted the mood and our meal.

10/10We attended with friends on Mother’s Day, there was a set menu which was brilliant. The service was also great. Myselcf and all members of my party agreed the experience was fantastic and we would recommend.

8.5/10Walking to the restaurant along George St, the Merivale restaurants were heaving but as we walked in to Monopole it was quite the opposite, quite a surprise! Great food thank you however we expected to be able to order from the menu. After taking another look at your website we did notice at the bottom that (for some reason) a set menu was the only menu on offer for a Saturday service. Why is this? It didn't seem to be working as the restaurant wasn't busy. Being locals, (Pyrmont) we felt like trying something new for dinner but we were confronted with a 'Special Occasion, set menu' restaurant. That's ok if that's what you are aiming for, we just misread things I guess. Service was a little mechanical and overattentive. From the beginning it wasn't very relaxing as it seemed we were being rushed. After asking if the table had been rebooked for later the staff eased off to allow us to relax. Sparkling water was ordered however it switched to flat water throughout the evening. We were charged a further $12.00 for this mixup! Thanks for the 30% discount but you need to do that when you're so off the strip. Will I return? Maybe but not for a set menu. My accountant always said - Cater for the masses and you'll eat with the classes.

9.5/10Very knowledgeable staff. As we have no clue what to order and we’re rush on time we just let the staff make suggestions. All the food turned out just perfect and great portion. Highly recommended and we will be back.

20 Curtin Place, 2000, Sydney (NSW), Australia
Barangaroo, Darling Harbour, Haymarket, Sydney CBD, Sydney City, The Rocks
Chef Brent Savage and sommelier Nick Hildebrandt, the hospitality duo behind some of Sydney's best-known restaurants, opened Monopole Potts Point in December 2012.
Following the success of Bentley, they wanted to experiment with a more casual wine bar concept, offering a compelling selection of wine and cocktails, matched with delicious, wine-friendly food.
After 8 fantastic years in Potts Point, Nick and Brent announced Monopole would be re-locating to a new home in the heart of Sydney's CBD in late 2020.
Co-owner and sommelier Hildebrandt said: “We've been wanting to move Monopole to the CBD for a while and were offered a great site that is ideally suited to the evolution of Monopole. When we first opened, we loved that locals would drop in regularly for a glass of wine and snacks. This is a big part of Monopole's identity, which we look forward to introducing to the CBD.”
One of Monopole's highlights is Nick Hildebrandt's wine list, which features more than 500 rare and boutique wines, with around 30 available by the glass at any time. This list has won multiple awards, including Wine List of the Year in the 2017 Good Food Guide.
