One of our alltime favorites in the Algarve. Superb traditional portuguese cuisine - always in a great quality. Nice decoration inside and pleasent terrace outside. Very friendly staff.

We both ordered the chef special fish dishes the sea bass and the crispy cod. There was nothing particularly special about either of these dishes. We could have reveived similar elsewhere in the algarve and for less cost. The brocolli was limp and potatoes ok. I liked the cheese dessert, but cheesecake was too smooth for a baked cheesecake but not creamy enough for the alternative. Ambience was good staff were attentive and helpful. Location is nice. I think we were just a bit underwhelmed by the food. On a previous visit (with other friends, not me) my husband really enjoyed the traditional portuguese meat dishes, so this might be an unusual experience. We will come back and try again.

Very good typical food, great setting. The wild boar with chestnuts and the black porc rojões are a must. If it's summer, try a table outside. Great for family/kids

Old fashioned menu. Duck a l'Orange tasted like a pot of marmalade - far too sweet, no balance. The skin was not crispy, the duck was over cooked and tough. Roast potatoes tasted of fat and they were flabby not crunchy. The Iberian pork was bland and needed seasoning - it reminded me of airline food, no flavours. We have eaten all over the Algarve and eaten much tastier fayre. Couvert was OK - but the bread was stale. We were truly disappointed as we were expecting something tasty and what we received was not tasty or enjoyable at all.

Monte da Eira is a gem of a restaurant near Loule. There is ample outside seating, essential on a hot day or evening, with trees and shrubbery for shade. The restaurant specialises in regional Portugese cuisine. The modest cover charge includes a splendid tuna pate, marinated garlic carrots and bread, making a starter almost unnecessary. The menu de dia offers interesting choices but we opted for the a la carte which offered a good range of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes. The rabbit casserole with prunes was excellent as was the wild boar casserole, and we followed this with a home made cheescake and a lovely creme brulee. The wine list, again, offers a good range of Portugese wines and several of the wines are offered in half-bottles. We opted for a full-bodied Alentejo and this complemented the food admirably. The service was very friendly and efficient - the waiter who served us was impressively multi-lingual. This is a restaurant we shall certainly visit again

Wonderful food, excellent service, lovely outside seating area on a very hot evening last week. Good choice of more unusual dishes too, my husband had wild boar - delicious. Highly recommended, would love to return one day.
