About the restaurant Natuurlijk

Naturally good

Restaurant Natuurlijk is always looking for the best products. That’s how we like it. All the ingredients are being selected very carefully and the chef takes the four seasons into account. Besides, the products are primarily imported from local suppliers. Sustainable, honest and most of the time biological.

DId not live up to my expectations.

We have a young daughter -20 months and we love to eat out. This looked like the perfect place where we could all enjoy ourselves.

The location and the interior are really wonderful. For a small child there is plenty to discover. A play area inside and a playground outside. The added bonus was the babysitters who sit in the play area with the children. Unfortunately, the 2 girls sitting there are more interested in talking to each other and painting their nails than actually engaging with the children. They seem to find the children tiresome. So sad. It is such an appealing idea to be able to let the kids play in a supervised area but the supervision has to be adequate and this was more of a worry than a help.

And it is this attention to detail that pervades here.

On entering the restaurant terrace the waitress approached me and somehow - I missed what happened but I did not bump into her - she managed to throw a WHOLE dish of sweet chili sauce over me - quite literally! it was in my hair and dripping off my jacket!!! Accidents happen and although everyone was very apologetic and I was offered a hot cloth to get the worst of the sauce off, something along the lines of a complementary drink would have been appropriate.

It really was not my evening because later on I went to pass my daughter some of my ham and knocked my full wine glass into my own plate- totally my own fault - and drowned my ham, asparagus etc in white wine. And soaked myself too. However, the staff never noticed a thing although there was a glass on the table where I emptied the excess liquid so I could eat the rest of my meal.

Which brings me to the food. Hm. What can I say? It was totally unspectacular. The soup was bland. The main course was only luke warm even before I poured wine into it. The Hollandaise sauce was more like mayonnaise than sauce and the ham was cold. The pudding - banana chocolate crumble was actually the only good thing in the day menu and the portion was on the small side.

My husband had the tuna steak which was mediocre and my daughter had the children's pasta with red sauce which was unpleasant. The pasta was overcooked and the sauce tasted as if it had come out of a pack.

The house wines that we tried were easy enough to drink but having said that they were not particularly tasty or memorable. When I asked the waitress to explain to me the difference between 2 wines she told me it the price. The price? Really? I can taste that?!!! Hm.

So, all in all the evening was not a great success. Such a shame. I really LOVE the idea of this restaurant. It has so much potential but it is not fulfilling it yet. The staff need to be brought up to scratch and it really is attention to detail that would make this OK place into something far far better!!!

We will return and see if it is any better....for me the glass is still half full ( even if the other half is swimming on my plate)
