Reservation was for 19:00 - we arrived on-time and were seated immediately and asked if we would like anything to drink. I asked for the wine list and was told that the restaurant did not serve alcohol. This was a surprise and I don't think there is any notification to this effect on the website. I had water and my wife had apple juice. We were then asked if we would prefer an English menu, which we did. What was provided was their only copy of a "menu" in English - it was 3 scruffy sheets of much used A4 typewritten paper, with no prices. From this we selected starters of mixed meze (me) and grilled haloumi cheese (my wife), followed by koftas with mozzarella and spicy sauce (me) and pasta with lamb and a spicy sauce (my wife), followed by ice cream for us both.
We placed our orders at 19:05. The appetizers arrived at 19:30. Bread wasn't offered - we had to hail a passing waiter and ask for it. Some of the meze was tasty, but a bit boring. The halloumi was very ordinary. The main courses arrived 40 minutes later, at 20:10. The koftas were like bullets - the meat looked and tasted like it had been cooked a long time before the koftas were added to the sauce, which was lightly spiced, but not very interesting. My wife had just two spoonsful of her pasta dish and declared it was inedible. I thought she must have been exaggerating and tried the dish myself - she wasn't exaggerating - it was inedible. We shared my koftas. We waited until 20:35 and then had to ask for our ice cream dessert. At 20:50 it still hadn't arrived, so I went to the counter and told the owner that we couldn't wait and I asked for the bill. He gave me the bill, which showed the charge for the dessert. I told the owner that we hadn't had the dessert and he took it off the bill. This is the worst food and the worst service we have experienced in any restaurant. I have spent some time in Turkey on holiday and on business - I think the owner and cook of Nisantasi should take a trip there and discover what Turkish food really tastes like, and the serving staff should be sent on a training course and learn to serve customers - not stand around talking.
